Purchased this product back in August of 2022 fermented it dry and bulk aged it for 8 months, bottled it and let it sit a couple weeks before opening my first bottle, so far the aroma is wonderful and tastes vary flavorful. Everyone that I have shared it with has absolutely loved it, will be curious how it tastes after sitting in the bottle after a few months. I definitely will be starting another batch vary soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars It’s good wine, but you need to doctor it a little bit

I’ve made so far about 10 different batches. Which takes four weeks total. The directions tell you to use 6 gallons of water, but the wine is very bland. So I only use 5 gallons of water and you can taste berry flavor now. Buy the fourth batch I started adding white regular sugar to get a higher alcohol percentage. I put 5 cups of sugar when mixing water and concentrate. It seems to be around 16% a PV now but for $68 it’s a little pricey when you can use other brands like Master Celler on Amazon for $28

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good for the money - highly recommend.

I ordered the Chilean Merlot. It turned out fantastic. First batch of kit wine. Followed instructions as indicated. Took a couple days for fermentation to pick up but when it finally did it was a-per-colat-in like a steam engine.

Instructions say to rack, add sulfate, and clairifier after two weeks. Checked the SP and it came in at .99 (needs to be below 1). Went ahead and sampled the wine and it was already the best Merlot I have EVER tasted.

People who are complaining about this kit might not be mixing the juice with the water thoroughly. DO NOT just dump in the juice without stirring. Also, when adding water, make sure it's warm enough for yeast to activate as this could be a problem if it's too cold.

Looking forward to many more purchases from Wild Grapes. THANK YOU for such a wonderful product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Made a GREAT Gluwein!
Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2020
I have made many different types of Merlot's, but this year I did a little twist. I've always wanted to make a gluhwein, so that's what I did with this this year. it came out absolutely amazing! And I'm sure once it ages a few months it will be even better. one of my friends, here is actually living in Germany, said this is one of her favorite that she has ever had. Just make sure you take your time and make sure that everything is super clean. Microbial, I got about 3 and 1/2 cases out of. If I would not have added all the extra, I would know I would have gotten just a hair over two cases. Very happy with this kid, and super surprised at the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another good kit

See update below --

Previously, I bought and made two Wild Grapes kit wines (Chard and CabSauv), and they were awesome. So I thought that their Merlot would be of a similar quality, but I was apparently mistaken. Carefully following the directions, I mixed the initial must in the proportions prescribed by the instructions, but after doing so I had a must which was pale and whose specific gravity was 1.030, not even worth using. It was as if they forgot to put their juice through a concentration process, and had simply packed unconcentrated juice as concentrated.

Update: I received communication from the parent company which advised that Day 1 stirring is essential, and that my must was almost certainly unstirred. They said they have seen exactly the same phenomenon before stirring on day one.

The 'Wild Grapes' wine kit arrived Oct 22, 2019. Everything looked fine upon arrival. On Nov 9, 2019 I went to make some wine and found the top of the box had exploded open with the juice bag filled with gas and ready to burst. See the photo.

Fortunately, the plastic bag had not yet broken, so I took it outside to discard. Had the bag broken, there would have been quite a mess to clean up.

There is a 'no return' policy by 'Wild Grapes', but Amazon did give me a full refund.

I have bought about 50 wine kits of various brands over the past 5 years, and this is the first time something like this happened. This is the first (and last) 'Wild Grapes' wine kit I bought.

I realize things like this can happen, but this does not speak well for their quality control. Also, there is no expiration date printed anywhere on the box - as on some other brands. The yeast had an expiration date of 09-2021, so it is likely the product is not too old, just defective.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely pleased

I have made multiple wines from kits ranging from $90-160 for the ~6 gallon output. I enjoy the process and love being able to have a good supply on hand as well as have plenty to gift to friends and family. I was skeptical when seeing a ~$65 kit on Amazon but was more encouraged when the supplied instruction set was identical to my more expensive kits. Long story short, this kit produced by far, my most favorite output yet and I can't recommend enough. Many reviews will say the product is good for the price that you pay; in this case, the product is fantastic while also being very affordable.
