5.0 out of 5 stars I like it

I really like this product. It’s super easy to prepare and can be eaten in many different ways. The curry taste is strong and flavorful. The tofu texture is firm which I do love about it because it won’t be too squishy to eat. For myself, one pouch can provide 3 to 4 servings. I just simply microwaved the tofu with some sauce and it became an easy and delicious snack. Later I used the sauce to cook some ramen, very yummy. The noodle was infused with the flavor. I believe it would be equally good with rice. A couple of days later, I cooked some seafood with the sauce, and the curry seafood is so tasty. I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it.

Review of: BOILING POINT Curried Tofu Hot Pot Soup & Seasoning Base

Since I don’t make it out to as many different restaurants as I did a few years ago, and since I find myself cooking more and more foods at home, I like to seek out foods that are out of my ‘comfort zone’; foods I’ve never tried before but have always wanted to try. And, the Boiling Point Curried Tofu falls into that category for me as I’m reasonably sure I haven’t tried something similar before.

And, as a change of pace meal, I have to say that I found this Curried Tofu to be … well … awesomely delicious.

I did find the ‘heat/spice’ of the product to be high up on my spice tolerance range. I certainly don’t consider the tofu or sauce to be mild or even medium, but at the same time I didn’t find the heat/spice to be so hot that my eyes started watering or I broke out into a flush or anything along those lines. Having said that, though, I was glad I had made some nice, cooking Raita (yogurt/cucumber/spices) to go along with the meal.

Going beyond the heat, I found that the overall flavor of the Curried Tofu was super tasty, with a mix of spices that, for me, just seemed to work together to darkly rich and flavorful in a did remind me of previous visits to Indian restaurants.

And, in what I somewhat surprised to find, the tofu chunks absorbed a lot of the flavor from the broth and, at the same time, were still nicely firm. I’m used to tofu being kind-of-bland in dishes I’ve had before, but that wasn’t the case with the tofu in the Boiling Point Curried Tofu. Certainly, a pleasant surprise for me.

Still, with as good as I think this curried tofu is, I still find myself staring at the facts. Granted, the facts are somewhat confusing to me as the front of the package states that the packet makes 2 or 3 servings but the back nutrition label says an entire package is one serving.

The nutrition facts label shows 720 calories for the packet. It also shows (for the entire packet) total fat of 40g (51% dv), saturated fat 5g (25% dv), sodium 3755mg (163% dv), total added sugars 75g (150% dv). For me, these numbers are what I consider to be very high. And even though this meal was shared by two people in my family, I still find the numbers, even when cut in half, to be high.

In addition, the cost factor of roughly $15 per packet, is also somewhat of a concern for me. While I would feel comfortable paying this amount for this quality of product in a sit-down restaurant, I do think the cost should be lower since I'm preparing the meal at home.

The bottom-line for me is that I found this product to be so delicious and so nice as a change of pace meal that I know I will try it again; but I will have to put this Curried Tofu into my ‘special occasion’ category due to the high fat/sodium/added sugars numbers and the cost per meal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good hot pot soup base

I didn't expect it to be so spicy. Turned out to be a perfect hot pot soup base. We put lots of dumplings and extra tofu inside. It’s so tasty. Definitely we will buy it again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Over-Priced. Some questionable ingredients including MSG, varoius -phate suffixes.

This tofu is listed at one serving as having 20g protein.

Tofu packages I make at home which are organic have far more than this and I can usually get a decent sized container of tofu (not fermented) far larger than this around $3.

If I were served this amount at a restaurant I would be fairly pleased if it cost $9. It's enough for a soup kind of appetizer for 2 people and the salt content (over 100% per person) wouldn't be as through the roof. One could add some wakame if so desired.

It's fairly self-explanatory and easy enough to make. I enjoyed it, but not at $15.

Further, the ingredients after the standard soy beans and water gets into the too scientific and unfamiliar.

I've had fermented tofu before which was quite strong in tasting. This taste fairly plain in comparison but has enough salt, I guess, to give me a sodium fix I developed from too many cheap ramen bowls in college.
