We really like this brand of medium grain rice. It cooks well in rice cookers, following cooker instructions. When it is cooked and allowed to sit, the rice is ready to serve. It tastes great hot or cold. Older and more stale cooked rice can be served fried, with other ingredients for a tasty Japanese side dish.

The rice is of good value and its quality is excellent. It is perfect for many Japanese-style dishes, e.g., sushi, which requires rice that will stick well and hold together. We have never experienced seeing insects in our bags.

After buying a 1lb bag of sushi rice at my local Publix and getting hooked on it, I knew I needed a more financially realistic option. Enter Nishiki Premium Rice. The reviews are spot on: this rice is of excellent quality. It arrived nicely packaged with no tears in the package or grains in the box (which sometimes happens with other foods). I cook my rice directly on the stovetop, so I was able to compare the fancy, expensive California sushi rice from my grocery store with this brand using the same cooking method. The Nishiki was even better than my original brand. Very clean, as you can see in the video. Good-sized grains. Nice and sticky. It freezes and reheats well, too. This will be my go-to sushi rice from now on.

One tip: If you're cooking it in a pot on the stove, you'll probably want to add a bit more water than the directions state. I add an extra 1/4 for the 4 serving option.

Good rice, seems longer grained than I remember

I was getting this rice consistently for a while. It's a good basic rice that can go with anything and is easy to digest. It tastes mild, and has a nice sticky texture. The rice cooks pretty soft depending on the water I usually add a few more tablespoons in my rice cooker. This bag I received was good, but the grains seemed way longer than I'm used to. It was quite puzzling, they cooked fine and tasted good though. It's definitely not quite sushi rice though, I prefer a chewier, shorter grain. I do appreciate that it's California rice and it's relatively clean, I wash it but not much rice milk comes off. I always let my rice sit for at least a half hour in the water before cooking and usually add a pinch of salt especially since I use filtered water. For the price this is a really great value! So much better that buying locally it shocks me the local stores doubled and even tripled their nishiki rice prices.
