5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic - just like fresh squeezed limes
Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2024
This lime juice is fantastic! It is just like fresh-squeezed limes and is perfect for making cocktails, drinks, and smoothies. The juice is made from 100% real lime juice and contains no additives, preservatives, or sweeteners. One thing to keep in mind is that once you open it, you have to use it before it goes off. However, you can simply freeze the juice in small cubes and have ice-cold lime juice to pop in your drink whenever you need it. This way, you don’t waste the product before it spoils. Overall, I would give this product a 10/10 rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes Amazing Sherbet
Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2023
I make my own ice cream and sherbet, but don't enjoy dealing with fresh raspberries and blackberries. Making a puree at home and getting the seeds out is a pain. I tried dried raspberry powder, which works pretty poorly. I have made both raspberry and blackberry sherbet with the Funkin purees, and they make great sherbet. Here's my simple recipe in case you want to try it yourself (this is sized for my Cuisinart ICE-100):

2/3 cup fruit puree
2/3 cup heavy whipping cream
1-1/3 cup whole milk
1/2 cup sugar
A small pinch of salt

I mix these in a pot over low heat to make sure the sugar dissolves completely, but never let it get more than lukewarm. I like to let it sit in the fridge overnight before churning, but it isn't necessary if you're in a hurry. Then just churn it in your ice cream maker according to the directions for your machine. It takes about 25-35 minutes in my Cuisinart.

Some people like to use only whole milk, or whole milk plus a little buttermilk in their sherbets. To me, not having some heavy cream makes it hard to serve, and the mouthfeel isn't as good. I think the Funkin purees would make a good sorbet also, which doesn't include any dairy at all.

This ended up being pretty good. I used it in a homebrew sour wheat. It was a little pricey, and didn't have as much flavor as I was hoping, even though I used 2 pouches for a 5 gallon batch.

1.0 out of 5 stars Strawberry flavor taste like tomato.

The strawberry flavor is awful, the package states that they used tomato paste (instead of the advertise raspberry flavor). This causes the product to be acidic and have the taste and consistency of tomato paste. This product has weak strawberry flavor that you can't differentiate at all when you add anything. Can't speak for the other flavors, but strawberry sucks.

5.0 out of 5 stars DELISH!

I make pear lychee martinis with this puree. Absolutely delicious. So easy to use. Pear vodka, lychee puree, St Germain elderflower & some fresh squeezed lemon. That's it. Very refreshing and not too sweet. Don't even need simple syrup because there's enough sweetness in the puree. My new go to martini! The puree is a tad pricey but so much easier than finding/buying/prepping fresh lychee.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the real deal

Passion fruit is one of my absolute favorite flavors, but the fruits themselves are hard to come by where I live, so I went looking for a puree that tastes as close to the real thing as possible without being highly sweetened. This is it. Other passion fruit purees and syrups give off a gentle reminder of the fruit, but lack the sharp tartness and intensely tropical flavor of the real thing. Funkin, on the other hand, gets pretty dang close—I would say it's about 90% as good as the pulp from a freshly opened passion fruit, but much cheaper per ounce. (It takes an astonishing amount of fruits to get even just a cup of pulp!)

I use it mostly in cocktails, where the passion fruit flavor really shines—blend equal parts puree and sugar by weight to create a syrup, then use that in your favorite tiki drink or in place of simple syrup in other recipes—but I have also used it to make various desserts, and it holds up fantastically in every application. Unlike many other tropical flavors like guava, it does not seem to lose much flavor with heat, which makes it very versatile. I would absolutely recommend it!

A note about shelf life: This is obviously a very large amount (1kg), so I recommend opening it with a plan for how you're going to use it. The container suggests using it within 8 days of opening. Personally, I found that to be rather conservative; I had one open for 2 months, and almost a whole month went by before I started noticing a deterioration of flavor—and even then, it never spoiled! Just be sure to squeeze the air out before closing after every use.
