Amazing product! Not gonna lie, these pics don’t do justice, but they were part of my first trial 40 minutes ago, and I always use the same burger recipe to start. I have tried and tried to use TVP, but that taste and smell got worse every time for me no matter what. I don’t do it often but I decided to give up and switched to pea because I knew TVP just wasn’t happening. This was 1 of 4 test products I tried (unpaid, just me browsing amazon), but wanted to try this one for the higher protein (health vegans unite) even though it wasn’t pure pea. It was essentially a 1:1 swap for TVP with about 2% additional hydration (240g = 1 c. Water, I used 265g). This really is the product I’ve been looking for. My only gripe is I wish they had it in larger (ok, yeah, cheaper) quantities.
If you’re into molecular gastronomy, this behaves EXACTLY like I expect it to, where TVP was so fickle with certain partners (in addition to the funky taste). My ONLY thought that isn’t really a drawback, just a suggestion, is to let this sit for a 30 minute absorption period after adding your liquid. It only calls for ~10 minutes, but being that I was making a complex recipe that I knew what texture I was looking for, it was obvious the extra time would be worth it. It was.
If you’re NOT into MG, that’s ok, this is a very approachable product. It’s simple to use and bland in the best possible way with no funky aftertaste. I’m a tofu lover, hands down, but you gotta switch it up now and then. This is a perfect product to keep on hand for whenever you want. It takes whatever flavor you want and adds that chew you’re looking for. There’s no B12 here, so add some nooch to boost your intake and umami. All around, I highly recommend this product and look forward to moving on to additional test recipes with it (lookin at you, meatballs)!
