5.0 out of 5 stars Great protein substitute for chicken, work well with many dishes!

I use the Skallops as chicken in dishes and they absorb flavors very well. In the photos I made them as a teriyaki dish. In extra virgin olive oil, I sautéed fresh garlic, onions, red peppers, green peppers, shredded carrots, cabbage and cashews. Then added the Skallops which I had ripped up into smaller pieces. I find the texture to be better that way. I drizzled some Yoshida’s teriyaki sauce/marinade over the stir fry. Then added just a little bit of sesame oil for taste. I like adding a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for some heat. I also like having the (bagged) sweet kale mix salad with poppy seed dressing on the side….. just in case anybody would like to prepare this the way I did. It’s really really good! (Just be sure not to overdo it with the teriyaki because I did that the first time and it was too sweet and saucy.)
I definitely recommend the Skallops. It’s fun experimenting different dishes with them! There’s enough in the can for a few meals so it’s worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Damaged cans = less for my sons!

$76.95, We are a vegetarian family (2 sons) and use to buy these scallops often but with the rising price we save for them and buy on special occasions. It’s a pack of 12 and half the cans are damaged! We have only used 6 cans thus far. I am not sure if it’s safe to use the other cans. We were not able to have plenty on on Christmas but wanted directions ASAP. Thank you for helping to resolve. What we did eat of course it was yummy; but the boys were disappointed because we didn’t have much to celebrate. I will continue to save and buy because We love them! ❤️

4.0 out of 5 stars Tastes like chicken
Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2021
I spent an exorbitant amount on this one can because I was contemplating a 12 pack and if it was nasty, I'd rather be out $15 than $70. It was a gamble that paid off fairly well. I sauteed in some oil and curry powder for my first attempt to serve with a vegetable curry.

It was very satisfying if not flavorful, much like chicken. In a pinch, like an extended power outage, I would eat it out the can, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Cons: no real taste other than brine and looks kinda funky. The pieces are more square/parallelogram-shaped slabs than round like a sea scallop.

Pros: the can is packed with product and relatively little brine, so subscribe and save pricing is a good value if you are in position to buy bulk. The label reads 4 servings, but easily could be stretched. I like that it's in a recyclable can rather than a plastic bag. Also since it isn't frozen, it would be easy to cut into strips for fajitas or cubes for a chicken salad or breaded and fried making this a very versatile food and low in calories.

The Vegetable Skallops are one of the best products from the Loma Linda company. For those wishing to explore meatless options and looking to try tasty vegan or vegetarian dishes you can't go wrong with the Skallops. They can be breaded and fried, put into stews, and works well as a meat substitute in dishes requiring chicken or beef. They take seasoning and sauces well, which allows one to tailor the taste to perfectly suit one's palette. On top of that they are low calorie and provide good amounts of protein. A single can will easily serve a family of 4 or alternatively, one person can get 4 delicious servings. All in all, a very refined and popular veggie product, given the longevity of the various vegan dishes put out by the company, as well as the fact that they've been a successful company for a long time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Changed taste and texture
Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2024
Have been preparing meals with skallops for years. It was originally Worthington and now loma linda. Sadly, the texture has changed to a rubbery chew. The taste is no longer a pleasant taste either. The 19 ounce cans are now 15 ounce cans and the price is amazingly high. So, unpleasant taste, rubbery texture, 25% less product and more than 100% increase in price. . . no brainer. We’re finished.

Since foods are not accepted as returns, I’m stuck with them. I will just have to grind or chop and use as chili or vege burger substitute. And then say goodbye to most of Loma Linda foods since I’ve stopped buying most after changes. They are no longer worth the prices.

On the up-side, I’m being forced to create my own meat substitutes and they are less expensive, much tastier and healthier.
