5.0 out of 5 stars I've loved this since I was a child
Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2024
Many people in my family are vegetarian, not vegan, and these were our "veggie" burgers when I was a kid. As a single person, I love to be able to make these easily and keep them for sandwiches for the week. They are easy to make, provide protein, and didn't used to be as expensive as meat. That seems to have changed a bit...but I still love them. And am so thankful that they are available all these years later.

Looking through the comments, I haven't seen any recipes...well, I thought I'd give you one. Now this does use eggs so it may not fit into your lifestyle. Also, this is my mom's recipe, so the measurements or not terribly precise...use your heart. We've made them far more healthy, but here's the basic...all the way back to at least the 1970s...recipe.

Grandma Shari's Veggie Burge
Ingredients
1 can of Loma Linda Vege Burger
4-5 eggs depending on the size of the egg
1/2 packet of dried onion soup
A couple of squirts of Worcestershire Sauce

How To...
Put the contents of the can of Vege Burger in a medium-sized bowl (one of those silver ones if you are being authentic) ... break it all up so there aren't any big lumps.

Put everything else in there...mix it up. About the eggs, this is going to make a sloppy mixture...but it still should be MOSTLY Vegeburger, so a little more if it's not sloppy enough, a little less if you are losing the vege-burger in the eggs.

Put about 2 tablespoons of oil on a pre-heated medium-sized pan,. Drop mixture by large soup spoon size onto pan. Cook 2-4 minutes per side.

Move the finished "burger" to a cookie sheet, top with cheddar cheese, (or whatever kind) and put in 250-degree (F) oven while you finish the other "burgers."

Then make a sandwich. There are all kinds of ways we've made these...great with tomatoes and those crunchy little cucumbers...but the 8-year-old in me likes a little mayo, ketchup, mustard, and relish.

I hope you enjoy it as much as my family did and does.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious in lasanga...
Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2024
I use this as my "meat" in a classic lasanga and everyone raves. It's super easy to use, not overly salty, soaks up seasoning and simplifies parts of a classical lasanga recipe. It has a similar texture to ground beef, I've heard, and it's easy to manipulate.

I has other uses as a meat substitute, but the lasanga is a winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this stuff!

This stuff is so good! I use it in chili, ziti, tacos, etc. and it is the perfect ground beef replacement. I've lived this vegan life for a little over a year now and I've tried a LOT of meat substitutes and I've found that most that do not come frozen have a super funky smell. If it smells gross I won't even bother cooking it; why waste the other ingredients ya know? Vege Burger doesn't have an overpowering aroma and once you add your own seasonings that plant-y taste is very muted. Ok so you do have to get past the fact that it looks a little (ok more than a little) like dog food in a can but just dump it in a bowl and separate with a fork (I use a potato masher) and you're golden!

4.0 out of 5 stars I got this thinking it'd be great to be able to enjoy a lower fat
Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2016
I got this thinking it'd be great to be able to enjoy a lower fat, healthier substitute for 'ground beef'. When I opened the can, I wanted to puke because it does, indeed, look like dog food. I tried microwaving it, and forced myself to take a bite and was pleasantly surprised to find it was a very mild flavor (think rice or almost flavorless peas) with just a hint of onion or garlic. I then heated up a skillet with some oil in it, added the vege-burger, some garlic powder, black pepper, cumin, oregano and some mixed cheeses, and fried it all together until the 'meat' was almost burnt, as that's how I like my ground beef and ground turkey. Added a little salt, slapped the mixture on a bun (It holds shape beautifully!) and was pleasantly surprised with how flavorful and filling it is, now.

Its own flavor isn't strong, but this means you can make it whatever flavor you like very easily. This would be great for veggie-taco night. The texture is a little softer than meat, but very close, and with the right spices it tastes amazing. I'd definitely buy it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good sub
Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2020
19 oz is quite a bit larger than popular frozen meat crumble brands which are about always under 1lb making them hard to use for a sub in recipes calling for a pound of ground meat. It's a good deal as its larger than a lb and still comparable in price (better per ounce actually I think). No seasoning so you have to season yourself which makes it all the more versatile in any recipe. There is of course less flavor than ground beef so if you're using it in Hamburger Helper or something dependent on flavor of meat you will need to add a little sumthin' sumthin'.

3.0 out of 5 stars Best flavor, smaller size
Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2023
While I love this stuff, I was very upset to learn that they made the cans much smaller. They used to be 19 oz, now 15 oz for the same price. I would rather have them be the same size but for a higher price. Now I’ll have to order more. ????????????
