These cod livers have a smell that is mild and are in cod liver oil, their own oil. I suggest do not throw away the oil but the entire product is incredibly healthy for you. I eat it on a variety of types of crackers or toast points. The texture is lovely and they are very fresh tasting.

Wonderful flavor and mouth feel. If you enjoy canned fish, this is a special treat for you.

Myself, my body retains excess iron, but cod liver (unlike other liver, like chicken) has "no" iron.

This product is delicious served several ways, but the best and easiest way is to mash the livers well with about 2--3 tablespoons of drained almond butter or pecan butter. Great flavor. Drain the livers first, saving the oil for salad dressing. This cod liver pate is healthy, delicious, easy to make. Serve on rye crackers alone or over a thick pesto base (made without cheese to be dairy free). Quick and easy breakfast, appetizer, or snack.

I've never had cod liver oil before, but I've heard about it since I was a kid. I like calves liver if it is well prepared, so I wanted to try this out. I found this to taste more like oyster than liver, but it is rather mild either way. It is -very- tender, there's no direct comparison, but its like a fatty fish without any grain or flake whatsoever. Delicious. I ate it straight from the can, without salt or anything. The oil goes great on Ritz or as a dipping oil for decent white bread, and is relatively healthy for you, but there isn't much left after you have the liver.

It does have one of the fishiest scents I've smelled in a while, and it is potent - if you aren't going to consume the oil and instead intend to pour it in the sink, don't get any on the rubber part of the stopper, and flush out the trap, or everything will smell like fish for a couple days. My grandfather freezes it, then tosses it in the outside bin, so maybe try that instead.

I recommend it. The FDA says only one can a week due to copper content, which is too bad, but its rich enough that once a week is probably enough.

This is really surprisingly delicious. I'm not sure what exactly I expected; maybe something akin to the burpy fish oil pills? I purchased this because fish oil is healthyish. However, this is reminiscent of monkfish liver, but almost more of a canned tuna taste. The texture is smooth, not as smoothe as foie gras, but quite good. This is strongly flavored for sure, but if you like seafood and you like foie gras, you might find this really tasty too! I ordered a bunch more right after trying the first can. Now, I just have to try to pace myself....it's cheaper than monkfish liver, but still not cheap. This kind of can so far, has a lot more liver and less oil per can, than the other brands I have tried.

Update on 7/11/2020: I've now ordered 12 cans of this stuff like 6+ times....yeah, I might as well subscribe to it. My dad likes it. My son (13 months old) eats it too; he can't have dairy and our pediatrician said avocado and fish are good for him; this works also. He didn't like it initially; it was new...but it's really easy for him to chew and he eats it straight up. About 1/4th or 1/5th of a can. I just share with him. :)
