Great dual purpose hop. I used to use Citra for my SMaSH recipe but I decided to try this on a whim. I'm a fan.

Put this in a couple batches of mead. Turned out pretty good if I do say so myself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Product, But a Little Pricey

I ordered this for a recipe that I was set to brew with some ingredients that I bought at my LHBS. When I realized that I had forgotten the hops, I ordered these as I was not able to get back to the store before my planned brew day. They are more expensive, but also just as good as whatever you'd find elsewhere. In a pinch, they were worth the price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Just For Beer
Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2018
While I would love to use these for brewing my own beer, I'm not currently set up for that. Instead, I am using them to make a medicinal tea to combat stress and promote restful sleep. I use 3-4 pellets and dissolve them in hot water in Pyrex measuring cup. After a few minutes I pour the the liquid through a fine mesh strainer into a cup and enjoy. Well, enjoy might be a stretch. The resulting mix is quite bitter, but not undrinkable, and it does have some fruity notes. Perhaps adding some sweetener or other ingredients might enhance it's drinkability, but I treat it more like medicine and chug it down. It does work!

The thick bag arrived intact. I used scissors to open it and wish it had an option to reseal, but I can use baggies for that. The scent the pellets give off is very rich, floral, and fruity. If you've ever visited a brewery, you'll recognize it instantly. BSD's Mosiac appears to be top quality stuff. I have no doubt it would make a great addition to a home brewed beer, but thanks to the internet I discovered other uses for it and I've very happy with the "tea" I get from Mosaic. I expect the ½ pound size will last me a while given that I only need a few pellets per cup.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mosaic is a great hop

Overall, Mosaic is a great hop varietal.

As a longtime homebrewer (started nearly 20 years ago), I'm kind of a rarity in that I'm not a hop-head like most others. But that's what makes mosaic hops perfect for me. Sure they've got a lot of prominent hop characteristics, but they have a sort of spicy, fruity nose and they add more flavor than the oily hops you're probably used to in an IBA.

Eight ounces is a bit much for a beer -- even an IPA usually won't use more than 6, and once you open the sealed bag, they oxidize quickly, so you've gotta have a plan to use them all or some will go to waste. I brewed a SMaSH IPA with these (not exactly recommended because these are usually for aroma/flavor, but the AA is plenty for bittering, too.)

I normally get all of my brewing ingredients from my LHBS, but I figured I'd give these a try. I was worried about these being stored at room temperature in a warehouse somewhere, and even more worried that they were delivered to my doorstep on a 95-degree day, so they sat in the heat for a few hours before I got home, but when I opened them I didn't pick up on any off aromas or anything. (Although, I've still got 3 weeks to wait until I can pour that first pint.) In the meantime, I guess I'll just RDWHAHB!

5.0 out of 5 stars For beer or medicine

Bitter, sour, cold, dry and slightly astringent, hops are best known for their use in flavoring beer. But they are an efffective medicinal herb as well. They kill pain, reduce anxiety, are sedative, a bitter tonic and promote estrogen (to the point that female hops pickers often get sore breasts and menstrual issues )If you are making beer, these convenient hops pellets will let you skip the breast pain (but overdoing the beer can result in man boobs!)

This hybrid has a complex and pronounced.aroma. The bitterness is somewhat sour, with strong impressions of citrus oil, balsam pine, blueberry, peach and tropical fruit overtones (especially mango, but also shades of lime and mandarin orange.). Therefore it has a slight sourness not found in all hops.

The two major uses of hops extract are for stress-induced GI problems and menopausal insomnia. It can also reduce spasms,, especially of the bladder and vagina. Beer made with hops can deplete zinc, potassium and B vitamins if taken in excess, which can exacerbate BPH in
men. Hops may potentiate alcohol, sedatives, and anxiolytics.

To use these medicinally, put a teaspoon of the pellets in a pint of boiling water and let steep for 20 minutes, Or make a 1:5 tincture with 60% alcohol. Or take 4 pellets as if they were pills. Use quickly as hops lose their medicinal value,
