So, this vegetarian was sick this whole weekend and dreaming of that chicken noodle soup of my childhood! A very long time ago! I even went so far as to buy, on Amazon, real chicken broth along with one can of this "Chick'n Noodl" soup. The Amazon driver brough them fast! That is what I love about Amazon. Several items I needed right away and too sick to go out and not wanting to bother the adult children and Amazon brought all of them fast! But I digress; I tried the real chicken broth and felt kind of sick since I have not had anything made with real meat in a couple of decades (except for my Ancient Nutrition's Collagen, (also from Amazon and the same day delivery!) but that is an "animal" based product, not "meat" which I hide in a lot of chocolate milk, but I digress, yet again!) Then I opened the Gardeins and heated it up. Oh, my goodness. Bring me more. It was delicious.

I do not normally consume processed food. As a vegan, I try to keep a clean diet. I tried this during a particularly cold winter up here in the mountains, and I'm addicted. High in protein, very tasty. I absolutely love this soup.

Tastes a lot like the ubiquitous canned chicken noodle soup with the red and white label (can I say the brand name?), at least from memory. Haven’t eaten meat in a couple decades now. The chick’n was moist, in large pieces, and had a nice consistency and taste. Not enough of it, however. Far fewer noodles than the red and white label stuff but that was good for me; I don’t need extra carbs. I liked the broth although it was too salty for me because I never use salt, but not offensive and not nearly as salty as most commercial products. I ate it with a medium-sized salad for lunch and was still full by dinner time. Had to put off dinner another hour or so! It’s expensive but I will buy it again because I liked it so much. Gardein is one of my favorite vegan food companies.

Tastes good enough. It smells like beef vegetable soup, like the typical stuff from any other soup brand. I had to make sure it indeed was not beef. Very beefy smelling. The appearance is (not surprisingly) not anywhere close to the pictures in the product description, nor what is on the can. I will include a picture. It is mostly broth, with a few spoonfuls of decent looking canned vegetable and potato. The "beef" chunks look good, have a decent texture and taste. However, there are only like two pieces.

My cans were dented. The flip top lid is weak. It kind of comes off much too quickly, like it is barely attached. That is weird. I would not consider these for long term pantry storage.

Currently priced at $2.39 per can, which I thought was reasonable. I do not rate on price as we all have different budgets, needs, interests, prices fluctuate (especially now), and we can see the price before purchase. It is in line with other name brand soups of this size, yet since I am not a vegan or vegetarian, I will likely skip this and keep my eye on preferred brands that have a little more substance.

3.5 stars. Giving a solid 3 stars as I think it is "OK".

I'm usually a big fan of Gardein's products. Beefless Ground, Porkless Bites, Meatless Meatballs -- all three are staples in our house. But this Chick'n Noodle Soup is one of the worst things I've eaten.

I'd previously tried their canned meatless sausage gumbo, and while it wasn't perfect, it wasn't bad. So I figured the Chick'n Noodle Soup would be similar. I couldn't be more wrong. As others have noted, the smell is awful - dog/cat food is probably a close comparison. I had to double check the can for dents, just to make sure the soup hadn't gone bad. The smell does go away slightly upon cooking, but the taste is still bad. I made it through no more than half the bowl before dumping it.

And that's where it gets worse. Not long after, I felt bloated, and was overcome by burps that smelled and tasted like the awful smell and taste of the soup. It was overwhelming, and I became nauseous. I felt so bad I went to bed early. I spent the entire next day feeling sick - I could only stomach eating a handful of saltines the entire day. My intestines felt wrecked. Just the memory of the smell and taste makes me ill. I won't be eating any of the Gardein soups ever again, and if I could give this one negative stars I would. I don't know where Gardein went wrong, but this soup is just the absolute worst.
