Our Story

In rural communities throughout the world, prices for fresh fruit are low in the peak season when supply exceeds demand. Farmers take their fruit to local markets but can only sell up to 30% of their harvest. The rest goes unsold and rots.

There has to be a better way right? Yes there is!

Drying fruit is a simple preservation technique, which means no fruit is wasted due to rot, and the farmers sell 100% of their harvest.

This process not only extends food supplies, it also creates jobs for the local community. Dried fruit even fetches higher prices than fresh fruit. It's an approach that helps lift small farming communities out of poverty!

Our Impact through Direct Trade

Mavuno Harvest works with small scaling farming cooperatives, mainly based in sub-Saharan Africa (Burkina Faso, Ghana, Cote D’Ivoire, Uganda and Kenya).

Mavuno Harvest is a Direct Trade certified company, meaning the company builds and maintains relationships with the farmers and processors who grow our fruits and nuts. Direct Trade eliminates expensive steps between the farmer and consumer, and was developed to improve the increasingly convoluted fair trade system, which often places an expensive burden on farmers to maintain their certification. Direct Trade ensures that both the farmers (who are getting paid more) and the consumers (who are getting better products) are happy!

    I ate some of the dried jack fruit shortly after it arrived to me and within a few hours I was afflicted with severe liquid diarrhea which persisted for a few hours and then suddenly abated. I had no ill effects, but I had to keep returning to the bathroom repeatedly. I wasn't certain this food item was the cause; however, I suspected that it probably was since I had never before experienced the type of runs I was having. So, I decided I would wait a few days before eating any more of the dried fruit again. After a few days I tried it again, only this time I ate less of the fruit - only about 1/2 a cup. A few hours later I was afflicted again with the same liquid diarrhea. Obviously, my intestinal tract was attempting to rid my body of some contamination that is present in this organic food product. I reported my experiences to a customer representative who stated that he had experienced the same thing himself with this same food item. Amazon refunded my money, and the representative escalated my concern to management, and they will be contacting the seller as well. This is obviously a health concern and could adversely affect someone who is not in as good health as I am. I'm going to watch the reviews for this product to ensure that action is indeed taken to prevent contamination again. If needed I will alert the FDA.

    I’ve really enjoy eating these, especially the pineapple and banana ones. The taste was good. I wasn’t a fan of the mango because it lacked taste.

    I have been purchasing the dried mango for approximately 1 year and really like it. It has no sugar, is a low calorie/low fat option and it tastes really good. Unfortunately, something is going on with the quality very recently, and I am hoping that it is only a temporary problem. The last 2 boxes that I purchased (I buy boxes of the smaller bags) have not been good. The mango is paper thin and thready/ fibrous. It has barely any taste (or a bitter taste) and some pieces actually look rotten (another purchaser noted the same thing) and/or old. If I could return them I would. I just ordered again and am hoping that these are better. If not, I will need to find another option.

    I was looking for a low acid snack, papayas are low in acid. There are NO added sugars, so it is not nearly as tasty and tender as dried sweetened papayas. I cut it up into 1/2" pieces for snacking. Though it's not as tasty and tender as the sweetened version, I am giving it 5 starts because it is well packaged, its a low calorie, low acid snack. Because it's not a sugary snack, you are less likely to overeat them. There are a lot of dried papayas in 40 grams which only have 103 calories.

    I inadvertently bought dried fruit pkgs instead of freeze dried fruit for making truffels. Since the algorithms put everything on the same page, no problem, I thought. I've dried plenty of flavorful ripe fruits in my life. Under the sun or in a dehydrator without sugar. I received a well packaged , resealable bag assortment. Dried without sugar. I opened mango, pineapple, coconut & kept thinking one of these must taste right. Nope. None had any flavor of the fruit they represented. I got worried it was me & my allergies, so I bit into an apple I'd just bought. Bright, tart & sweet, juicy & delicious. Nope. It's that not ripe fruit was picked & dried in my opinion. Dried fruit is flavorful when it's picked fully ripe.
