I got these Annie's Homegrown Organic Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites because I had bought them a few times from Target (through the Shipt home delivery service) and I had really liked them, especially having 1 or 2 just for a sweet taste without adding too much sugar/carbs (IIRC the net carbs is something 18 carbs for 6 cookie bites) when following low(er) carb diets. Because I liked these cookie bites so much, I thought it’d be cheaper as well as easier to order them through the Subscribe & Save program, rather than getting it from the local stores/supermarkets
But after getting and tasting the Annie's Homegrown Organic Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites from the Subscribe & Save, I’m going to cancel my subscription and go back to just buying it locally from Target or other brick & mortar places. Because the cookie bites that I got from Amazon were VERY disappointing!
First off, instead of this box of cookies being packaged in a shipping box, it arrived stuffed inside a padded envelope which caused the top of the box (which is where the opening/closure tab is) to become crushed such that the top of the box will NOT stay closed, making it difficult to keep the cookies fresh after the inner bag is opened.
Second, I don’t know if whether its because the box of cookies was stuffed into a padded envelope or not (but it probably is, because it wasn’t really much of an issue when I bought these cookie bites from local stores) but most of the cookie bites in this box were broken pieces, even mostly crumbs. While in the box(es) of cookie bites I got from Target, most of the cookie bites were unbroken with only a small amount of crumbs towards or at the bottom of the box, in THIS box of cookie bites from Amazon, I’ve only seen maybe a couple or so whole cookie bites in the whole box, and the rest are all crumbs or broken cookie shards. In fact, I would guess that probably AT LEAST ½ of the bag's contents were just crumbs!
Last but not least, these cookies are soft, but NOT in a good way. Because while ordinarily, I love soft cookies (especially sugar cookies), its usually just when they are soft in a “cake-like” way. Meanwhile, every time that I’ve bought this kind of cookie bites from local stores, they were crispy/crunchy cookies and I LOVED those as well. However THESE cookie bites that I got from Amazon are neither crunchy, nor soft in a way I like. Rather these cookie bites were soft in a stale-ish way — kind of like someone left it out uncovered (instead of in an airtight container) and it got soft & stale and then they just packaged it up to sell. I don’t know if it has something to do with the box being somewhat crushed in (or before) transit, causing air to get into the bag of cookie bites or what. But these organic cookie bites do NOT taste fresh at all. So much so, that I even checked the expiration date to see, in case I had accidentally gotten an outdated box. But that was not the case either because the expiration date is sometime in 2020. Now, I don’t know if the lack of quality control in the box I got was just a fluke, or not, but regardless of the reason, these cookie bites taste very soft and stale………….and NOT what I was expecting when I added it to my Subscribe & Save account.
All in all I was pretty disappointed by these organic cookie bites that I got from Amazon. The ones I’ve gotten from Target/local supermarkets have been DELICIOUS. So I’m NOT writing this review trying to discourage anyone from getting these Annie's Homegrown Organic Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites in general. Just *possibly* the ones from Amazon. Just want to clarify that. Because these cookie bites themselves are GREAT — a nice little organic treat that is not only yummy, but for those of us watching our carb/sugar intake, the better portion control (and possibly lower carb/sugar amounts) allows us to have the taste of eating a chocolate-chip cookie, but without (depending on amount consumed, of course!) violating or undermining our diet limits.
So though I don’t necessarily recommend getting these Annie's Homegrown Organic Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites from Amazon, they are really wonderful as a mini treat, if you get them from a local store, if you can. Which is why ultimately, I give this a 3 star rating — 5 stars for these organic cookie bites in general and 2 stars for this particular order of the cookie bites which comes to about three stars!
