About this item

DRY YEAST – Looking for extra yeast for homebrewing beer? Try our SafLager W-34/70 German Lager Dry Yeast, a strain used for craft lagers.
QUALITY – This yeast hails from Germany, but is used worldwide. This strain produces beers with a balance of floral and fruity aromas and finishes with a clean flavor.
FLEXIBLE FERMENTATION – SafLager W-34/70 Yeast is a particularly flexible and forgiving yeast strain as it can tolerate warmer fermentations (up to 72 °F) without producing noticeable off-flavors. However, this strain does perform best in a fermentation temperature range of 58 - 70 °F.
HOME BREW INGREDIENTS – This lager yeast is different from ale yeasts because lager yeasts thrive in cooler fermentation temperatures. Our active dry yeast does not require hydration or a yeast starter to begin fermentation.

5.0 out of 5 stars After trying 5 different yeasts for Cider, this is my absolute favorite
Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2024
I've only been into homebrew (starting with cider) for about 6 months. In that time I've tried numerous types and styles of apple juice, and five different yeasts (SafAle-S04, SafAle-US05, Nottingham, Belle Saison, Cider House Select). Ironically, out of the nine batches I've made, the first batch was the best and it was Martinelli's Apple Juice (brewed in the plastic jug I bought it in) and SafAle-S04 - that's it. Since then I tried a lot of different combinations and most recently went back to SafAle-S04 and that is where I will stay. I ferment in my 66F basement storage room and SafAle-S04 ferments down to 1.000 in 12 days and flocculates amazingly well. I cold crash at Day 12 and bottle at Day 14 then bottle condition for 1 week before I start drinking. I want to bottle age to develop more complex and smooth flavors but always end up drinking it all first. I've give it away to close friends and family and it's so good they are shocked I make it in my basement LOL.

I've purchased yeast two different times from Craft A Brew. In both cases the yeast was fresh, unexpired, and worked great. To be fair, I ordered in Winter so there was no worry of excessive heat during shipping. Will definitely purchase from Craft A Brew again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Astounding power! ???? ???? ????

The media could not be loaded.
 First try with this yeast:
Belgian Style Tripel || OG 1.085 || 6 gallons || Oxygenated wort with a diffusion stone || Sprinkled 2 packs on top at 65℉ (no starter)

I have plenty of room in the conical, but I skipped the airlock thinking that it would be overwhelmed and I'm glad I did. It would have blown all the water out of an airlock in no time.

24 hours later, there's a steady stream of CO2 coming out of the tube. Absolutely staggering. ????

The full proof will be in three months at the first sample, but for now, this is getting five stars for the aggressive fermentation alone. If you have a high-gravity wort, I strongly recommend this one for an aggressive ferment.

Made really good cider. Leese settles well and i was able to pour the majority of each bottle with little to no leese coming out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great yeast with starter

Made a starter for 10 gallon batch of lager with one package and no fermentation issues. Have always had good luck with this brand, with ales i have pitched yeast straight into wort and still achieved full fermentation. Happy Brewing!

Works fast, non violent fermentation, low final gravity, no starter required and half the price of liquids. What's not to love?

5.0 out of 5 stars Arrived in a timely fashion
Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2023
The product arrived in a timely fashion. There is little else to say at this time because I have not used it in a fermentation and will not do so for a month. I have used this same yeast (from another vendor) in the past and really like it. By culturing small amounts of the try yeast, I have made up to six hundred bottles of high-gravity ale in a year, from one packet. I have one caveat: this yeast will ferment to less than 20% of original specific gravity. This result will be a very dry brew, which I prefer, but if your preference is for something a bit sweeter (like finishing at 25%) you may want to look for something else.
