5.0 out of 5 stars Packaging improved?

This hon-mirin has wonderfully irreplaceable, rich flavor. Aji mirin is merely sugar water in comparison. I've previously had difficulty with the older bakelite-plastic-topped corks breaking in transit during the depths of winter (Temps were -30F/-35C). The most recent caps are a newer design that seems more robust, ensuring the consumer protection seal remains intact.

5.0 out of 5 stars this is the only Mirin I use

The standard mirin products, even those available in Japanese markets, are primarily sugar syrup. This one is not and has a delicious flavor. I use it in all of my home-cooked Japanese dishes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy to find Organic Mirin!

This is a good quality mirin that tastes great. I see that the price has gone up since I bought it in February for $10.37. I probably won’t buy it again at that price even though I prefer organic.

The packaging was a good effort but the bottle itself has a cork cap which will leak in transit if sideways or upside down despite all the bubble wrap; a shame since this product is pricey for the size and has quality ingredients, so it feels like a double loss akin to losing part of your cake, without even eating it, after overpaying for it. I show how much I ended up with in the pictures.
The taste is good and the product is gluten free aswell so I can't wait to use it in my own Ajitsuke Tamago (味付け玉子) or Nitamago (煮玉子) (ramen egg) marinade for ramen.

5.0 out of 5 stars The real deal and worth it.
Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2023
This is REAL mirin. A must if you want authentic Asian flavors. Be careful of the stuff in the supermarkets. It is most likely Aji-Mirin, which is sake with sugar added. Not the same. This has a much more subtle sweetness. You can taste the difference. Unlike others, I had no issues with a leaky cap, so must have been a bad batch.

Correct flavor. Not weak like what I found at the supermarkets near me.
Good for Japanese cucumber salads and other recipies.

5.0 out of 5 stars The bottle cap will break
Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2023
As others mentioned, the bottle cap is so flimsy that it’s virtually guaranteed to break during transport. Mine did, but nothing leaked. The flavor is amazing, so I’m still giving it 5 stars. Please fix the packaging!

1.0 out of 5 stars Rating based solely on quality of container

Never got to try it because I dropped it and the bottle cracked. The bottle is made of very thin glass. Dropping it is on me, but it fell on thick carpet. I've dropped other glass bottles before and none of them cracked. Considering how inconsistent Amazon is with packaging, and the fact that the postal service doesn't treat mail with kid gloves, buying something -- no matter how good -- in a container this fragile doesn't seem worth it.
