Jay C. Hormel, son of George Hormel, had an inventive mind. He’d been working on a consumer-branded canned ham since 1926. After a decade the cooking and packaging technology aligned. And during a 1937 New Years Eve party, the name SPAM was coined and the brand was born.

Launched as 'The Meat of Many Uses,' SPAM products was quickly adopted by American housewives. By 1940 70% of urban Americans were eating SPAM products. But it was the arrival of WWII, and the need for easily- transported protein, that fueled the SPAM brand’s incredible growth. By 1959 over one billion cans had been sold.

Jalapeño flavor is evident but not overpowering. Wonderful diced into omelettes, sliced and heated (air fryer) with cheese makes a great sandwich. NOT greasy! It WILL stick to frying pan if no oil is used.
Have tried the Hickory as well but definitely prefer the jalapeño.

The jalapeno flavor is not overpowering. It adds a little extra 'kick' to the Spam flavor and works well when eaten cold on a sandwich. I eat it as well as their Hot&Spicy flavor as a fried breakfast meat . Because the shelf life is sufficiently long, I usually buy it in bulk and save moola and have an uninterrupted supply. Efficient, stackable packaging and an easy to open pull-tab lid (easier than sardines) makes storing and opening the cans a breeze.

Makes great musubi

Regular Spam makes good musubi, but it is quite salty. Using low sodium Spam helps to cut down on the salt and still results in very yummy musubi. Since I've learned to make musubi, I no longer have to order pricy musubi from the local Hawaiian restaurant.

This tastes like regular spam but with just a hint of jalapeno flavor. I didn't notice any spiciness after it was pan fried but my friend says she noticed a bit. I like that they didn't overdo it and I enjoy the product.

We love spam and the many ways it can be prepared. Our favorite way is to put water in a pan and put brown sugar in the water and slice the spam and let it cook till the brown sugar flavor gets into the spam. Another way is to slice the spam into small pieces and cook it with scrambled eggs . Great value for the money.

While this product does have a flavor that is typical of seasoned breakfast meats, I found it to be only decently good.

However, it's worth noting that the product retains its reputation for having a look and consistency similar to pet food.

In my local area, I've come across SPAM alternatives that are not only less costly but also comparable in consistency and taste to SPAM. This has made me question the overall value of this particular product.
