Comparing this to Dyson D40 which I had for 10 years and used almost daily.
Weight.
Shark is definitely heavier and bulkier than Dyson D40, so is its head. I could not get under tables/chairs that easily as with Dyson and had to move things around more.
Size.
Dyson felt more ergonomic for petite users, Shark is taller and it takes a bit to get used to the height of it. It is not a flaw, just different.
Gliding on the floor.
Shark is like butter compared to Dyson. It feels like it is not touching the floor and glides above it, while Dyson felt like I'm riding on gravel, leaving marks on the floor from those tiny head wheels.
The main brush (on the head).
When in use, it pulls vacuum forward, similar to self propelled grass mowers :) There's no way I can vacuum going forward all the time, so this is something I need to get used to. It's not pulling hard, but you definitely feel it.
Features.
Dyson had one multi use attachment (kind of 2 in 1), Shark has 3 separate attachments AND you can take the canister off of the head, use the hose long and short, and this gives you a myriad of options of usage. Love it.
Suction power.
OK, I was a huge fan of Dyson, my 10 years of having it speak for itself, right? It was like a marriage, haha. But now, after just initial try of Shark, I can agree with my aunt who keeps saying "The new one is always better than the previous". Originally it was about a partner, but I find it very true regarding vacuums. Shark seems to leave it very very clean wherever it passes, and even the air feels cleaner in the room. Very nice.
Noise.
Shark is quieter. Dyson had noise issues which showed up while warranty was still valid, so it got fixed (otherwise it is very expensive to fix), but it was still way louder than Shark.
Head lights. Here it's simple, Shark has them, Dyson does not. Are they essential? No, but a nice addition when vacuuming in darker places or in the evening, and they give vacuum some kind of character :)
Ease of use.
Overall - super easy. I put it together not even looking at the manual. Maneuverability is good, I just wish it bend more while trying to vacuum under side tables.
Will update regarding cleaning/emptying the canister.
