My HVAC had two Honeywell M847D damper actuators. They had lasted about 12 years (I oiled them about 5 years ago) when last week I noticed the air conditioning was cooling the house unevenly. Investigating, I found the actuators stuck. I unstuck them but found both had teeth missing in the large gear, so neither would reliably control the damper anymore.
I'm glad I found these RZ3-1M replacement units. They arrived 3 days faster than the estimated delivery date. Initially, I was concerned that the shorter hex head threaded bolt it came with would be a problem, so I replaced it with the longer bolt from the Honeywell unit. However, when I went to install them, I found the shorter bolt was actually the better choice, so I put them back. With the shorter bolt my Allen key wrench just fit over the top side of the unit and could tighten or untighten the bolt.
The instruction manual provided was very useful. They also come with a 24V troubleshooting LED that can be used to check that the actuator is receiving power. I didn't need it, but did try it out to confirm they worked. Could be handy in the future.
The units installed in just a couple of minutes and worked immediately. The home was back to normal cooling shortly after.
The unit appears well made, came with good instructions, was easy to install and worked out of the box. I with every repair project went this smoothly!

About this item
The Retrozone RZ3-1M 24 vac 2 wire spring return damper motors are designed as drop in replacements for Honeywell's M847D series motors on popular ZD and ARD dampers, including M847D1004, M847D1012, and other M847D series motors.
These motors also replace most Honeywell 2 wire spring return motors, as well as many other brands and work with normally open and normally closed installations. These motors are also replacements for the Hansen 135-6 motor, as well as other brands with the same footprint.
Our all metal gears and precision engineering get rid of the failure prone thin metal or plastic OEM gears from Honeywell. Our gears are twice as wide as the new “improved” Honeywell plastic-covered motors. See the gear comparison in the product photos.
Don't be left in the dark when your new motor, damper, transformer, or thermostat fail to work. Our handy 24 volt test light and troubleshooting guide, included with motor, allow you to test power to your motor and perform a complete diagnostic evaluation of your zoning system when used with our 2 page troubleshooting guide.
Voltage: 24 VAC +/- 10%, 60 Hz, 0.36A
Torque Rating: Power open 32 in. oz./spring close 32 in. oz. - torque is consistently delivered throughout the full 90º rotational operating range to open and close the damper, irrespective of whether the actuator is operating in Power Advance Mode (energized) or Spring Return Mode (de-energized).
Speed Stroke and Rotating Angle: Motor driven 30 sec./spring return 6 sec. and 93.5º
Reliability: Quality tested for over 120,000 cycles for exceptional operation with no decay in delivery torque over the life of the actuator
Noise Level: Very quiet operation, typically ≦ 40dB at 3’
