5.0 out of 5 stars Vertical Outlet Box Cover; Horizontal HEATIT - A Solution
Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2022
As many have noted, the thermostat is horizontally oriented thus making it difficult to install in a covered outlet box. Rather than use a 2-prong extender that would poke the HEATIT out of the outlet cover, I have opted to place the HEATIT inside the well house (fake rock) on an extension cord and then plugged in the heat lamp. Three comments about that:
1) the HEATIT stays dry,
2) the HEATIT turns on at the proper temp, and
3) the HEATIT turns off at the proper temp.
Interestingly, the HEATIT cycles on/off frequently even if the actual outside air temp (OAT) remains below 35F. That is because the heat lamp switches on at 35F, the well house/rock warms and eventually the lamp goes off when house/rock inside temp is ~40F. When the well house drops to 35F again, the lamp comes back on. So, with my setup, the lamp is not on 100% of the time even when the OAT remains below 35F. Energy conservation!!
The downside? When I check to see that the heat lamp is on when the OAT is below 35F, I may catch the HEATIT in its off cycle which causes consternation.
Notable, too, is that condensation along the base of the fake rock (on a concrete pad) is an indicator of warmer air inside. With that explanation, I should not have to exit the house again tonight to prove to the wife that the well is protected from low temperatures.
When the manufacturer sells a vertical unit, I might buy it. Might; because I have an efficient system.
02 Nov 2023 Edit: Having forgotten that I wrote this review, I was irked to see the heat lamp was not on when I woke to the first freeze of the new winter. After doing all the proof-of-function checks again, I came back inside to write a review. Ha. This review was just waiting for an update. Yep, the HEATIT is still working as designed in my setup. Wish my memory was working as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the well house
Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2024
I got this because I didn’t want to leave heat lamps on 24/7 in the well house when they weren’t needed. This works great and saved me time going out to turn lamps on and electricity when it wasn’t freezing during the day.

4.0 out of 5 stars one of the three HEATIT ET-21 didn't work at first so I'm correcting the review.
Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2021
Correction below. I bought three of the HEATIT ET-21 Freeze Thermostatically Controlled outlets in July to use on wellheads in the winter. When the temperature got down to freezing one of them did not work. It has been over three months so I couldn't return it. I recommend testing the device in a freezer when you first get it. I hope the other two will work when things freeze.

The device started working the next day. Thanks

1.0 out of 5 stars Flaky piece of junk!
Reviewed in the United States on November 1, 2020
I’ll be returning this. I plugged it in 2 days ago and at 5:30 am I checked, the light was not on and the heater off. It was 33F at that time. So in the afternoon I placed it in a freezer and after about 15 mins plugged it in the wall with a heater plugged in and the light came on. It went off after a minute since the temp at that time was in the upper 50s.
So I thought it was just a stuck thermostat inside the device. This morning, 8am, I went out to check on things and the light was not on nor heater running again! It’s even colder this morning.
My guess is the thermostat has trouble working when the temp drops gradually. Junk.

Update: Still piece of junk.
I read in the description to put it in the freezer for 45 minutes to reset the thermostat, so I figured maybe my 15 minute test wasn’t enough. I gave it another try, 1 hr in the freezer, took out and tested with a lamp, it worked and went off shortly after that due to warm house temp. It went back into my shop last night. This morning at 5 am It’s 30F and the light was not on and the new milkhouse heater was as cold as ice.

Update: 23 Dec 2020
They sent me a replacement. Failed the same way, worked immediately from a freezer to socket only to turn off well below 45. It appears the have trouble with gradual drops in temp and at the wrong temps.

These units are saving me big money on my electric bill. I’ve been using them on heat tape on water pipes. Instead they f tg having to be on 24/7, they only come on when the temperature dips close to freezing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greenhouse
Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2024
I bought this to use in conjunction with the heater I have in my greenhouse. I don’t have a big permanent greenhouse so a space heater works but the thermostat in the space is not accurate thus the plug. So easy to use and solved all the problems in keeping everything unfrozen.
