5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Happy with this Arm So Far
Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2018
I'm pretty happy with it thus far. I bought it as a nursing student to practice my IV sticks. I've been using it a few days now, it feels well made, easy to set up, decent price, and it's great practice. Sure it may not be completely life like, veins don't really roll, it's easy to see them, etc., but it's great to practice TECHNIQUE and become more confident with the process. If you're able to start a line on this no problem and have your technique down great, then when it comes to the real thing, all you have to focus on is the patient. I've had no leaks or anything yet, but we'll see as time goes on. I've used the included butterfly needle, syringe with attached needle (they're about 24-26 gauge), and started IV's with 24 gauge over the needle IV catheters. You're able to advance the catheter into the vein, flush the line, etc., no problems. Mine even came with the supplies to spike and hang an IV bag. I did put a Tegaderm on one time over the IV site and it stuck REALLY well to the skin, so much I don't want to use the Tegaderm on it anymore because I don't want to damage the skin on the arm. Overall I'd recommend for those just learning venipuncture and IV's.

It’s very life like, and that makes palpating easier.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product for practice-needs a little more to be a complete package

I purchased this for nursing students to use to practice with when their open lab wasn't available. What I didn't fully understand is that, without practice needles-this is not effective as a standalone product. Perhaps I didn't read the description carefully enough or perhaps it is because I was a non-medical person purchasing this for nursing students but, at any rate, until we can locate some old needles-this is not useful to us. Good product but not complete as is.

Creepy weird how realistic the arm looks and feels. Great quality material for the person to practice phlebotomy. Whether studying nursing, EMT or other medical professions that require understanding and performing giving an I.V. My only complaint is that there’s nothing to practice for someone whose veins roll or when they’re a heavier weight person.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the ones in school, for half the cost

This training model is an absolute steal for the price. My wife is an RN and works in a Plasma donation center, so this is right on point with what she does. The veins are inset enough to give you the training you need, but appear very well through the life-like skin material. She was so blown away by how nice of a product it is, and stated that it included waaay more veins in the model, than even the one she used during nursing school. You can practice IV sticks, blood drawing, phlebotomy, back of the hand, all down the forearm. I have yet to try and change out the material for the veins, since we havent stuck it enough to need to, but it looks like a simple act of replacing easy to acquire surgical tubing. If you have a medical proffesional you care about who does ANY kind of sticking, this an absolute must have. No question

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for IV start practice

I purchased this product to help me practice my IV skills for nursing school. The arm was easy to set up and works well. The thickness seems similar to the dummies we use in school and the veins are easy to locate. I used a 22 gauge needle but if you have a smaller needle that might be better so you don't end up with big puncture marks in the arm. I rotated puncture locations and the arm is supposed to reseal itself but I believe that at some point, after many punctures it will start leaking. Still, I must say I am pleasantly surprised by the excellent quality of the product and it's ease of use. I fully recommend this product to anyone needing to practice their IV skills!

I'm a healthcare student taking Phlebotomy courses and this "Phlebotomy Practice Arm" is fantastic. I was able to master different techniques to feel more confident when drawing blood from real patients. I rarely write reviews, but I am gladly surprised by the awesome customer service for this company (The Apprentice Doctor). I ran out of needles, and it's difficult to buy a few needles in pharmacies, as they're not offered for sale. I contacted the customer service of "The Apprentice Doctor" directly on their website. Judy was very attentive and welcoming. Although, I had purchased this arm from Amazon, and long ago; they still cared about me as a customer and did everything they could to locate and ship new needles. I'm very pleased with their high-quality customer service and would recommend this company to everyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent product for the value, but does leak.

I purchased this arm to practice IV catheter insertion for nursing school. The skin feels semi realistic and the cath needle goes in pretty well without too much effort. It’s definitely softer than the arms in the lab at school, but not nearly as heavy, which can make putting on a tourniquet kind of difficult, but that isn’t as important to me as having a real feel of the needle going in. It doesn’t feel like a real person, but it provides a pretty decent feel and general idea. For practice and helping to build confidence I think it does a good job for the value of it. The box came with everything it said was included, and did have an instruction pamphlet on how to set it up. The syringe wasn’t the greatest quality, but since I have my own supplies I didn’t care about that. I also use saline water (easy to make) with a few drops of red food coloring and it works well to help you see the “red flash” after you get the needle in the vein. My only real complaint is that it leaks a bit where the tubing connects near the end of the arm. It got under the skin, but the skin peels back so I was able to dry it before it got too bad. As long as there is a paper towel under that area, it doesn’t seem to be that bad of an issue and doesn’t seem to change the functionality of it. Overall good product for the value. Hopefully they will continue to work out the kinks.
