5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Impressive

Really bought this with low expectations. However, very pleasantly surprised. Relatively easy to assemble and use. You can have this together in 15 minutes, 30 if you stop to get something to drink. It really is as simple as turning it on and using it. I have not gone beyond that. No picture taking or hooking up to a monitor but I don't think that will be too difficult. Since they talk about using it for coins I did try that and it works well. Unless I missed it the power is not variable. It would be easier to find and focus on bigger items if you could. Not a major issue though. I work with small parts in various hobbies and my older eyes need some help. It has done the job. Lighting is good and I don't have to hover and bend at odd angles to see things. Very nice to just look at the screen until you can see what you need to. Will see how it does with more use and make some more comments. And yes I would buy it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great digital microscope. Exceeded expectations.

I purchased this digital microscope for my university lectures where I am simultaneously teaching students in class and via Zoom. The USB function is a real plus. I was able to plug this in, and during a Zoom meeting, switch from my webcam to the microscope with no problem. This allowed students in class to watch what I was doing on the projection screen while students at home could watch on their computer screens, all with excellent resolution. The ability to take pictures or video with the microscope at the click of a button is a real added bonus.

The microscope is very impressive for the price. It is relatively small and easy to pack and carry in the original box. I can set it up or take it down in about 2 minutes. The additional side lighting helps to produce shadows or provide illumination to your very tiny subject matter. Yesterday, I was teaching about the "placoid scales" of sharks. These scales are more like teeth than fish scales. Although you can readily feel them on shark skin, you cannot see them with the naked eye. This microscope showed them in far better detail than I had hoped.

The 7" screen is like a very large cell phone or a small tablet. This is plenty big enough for soldering circuits, grading coins, etc. If you want it big, you can always project it onto a 100" screen (which is what I do in class). The digital functions of the microscope (lighting levels, exposure compensation, timer, camera functions, etc.) can be controlled with buttons on the screen or the wired remote.

The rechargeable 18650 rechargeable battery is fairly common. While you can plug your microscope into a USB block to charge, I actually have a dozen of these batteries and external charger for my SCUBA lights. The battery lasts for about 3 hours and (if the battery ever dies) you can pick up a few extras on Amazon for relatively little money.

Bottom line, although this may not be laboratory grade equipment, it does produce similar results and at a fraction of the cost. It does feel a bit like a toy, but it's hard to argue with the results. I'm far more impressed with this unit than I hoped. Time will tell how durable it is, but for now, I'm super happy I purchased the TOMLOV.

Pictures included are of shark skin scales and close ups of a $1 bill. The last photo is the closest/most magnification I could get and still be able to focus. These are photos directly from the microscope.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice zoom quality
Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2024
I love the item the zoom quality is very impressing and easy to refocus when zooming in and out the fact of the dial for a zoom in the back is very unconditional really seeing you have all these cords plugged in to control taking the pictures with so they get all tangled up by defying laws somehow around the spindal of the dial and back part when even not putting them near it at all. Then to fight through the cords to get to dial and mantain multitasking to make it work is kinda tricky. But the only other complaint I do have is that you can’t get a full image of a item I took a stamp which isn’t large but once I placed it on the base and dialed it as high up as it could go it only got a small portion of the stamp which was very disappointing seeing if you wished to capture the full image on the screen that I didn’t like. But other than that very nice the battery life isn’t long at all if you keep all lights on with the screen and the two led lights and the light inside the scope magnifier as well kills battery in no time even if you place a time out for the screen to shut off. But those were my only quarrels with it. Thanks came on time nice packaging and very good directions and everything was there like stated great deal for price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly excellent value, versatility, ease of use and functionality.

I was a fairly skeptical going in about the quality of this microscope as I had purchased on of the scopes that was hand and app controlled in the past and felt it to be a waste of money. I took the dive on this one because I was curious how the LCD side lights and other features would make a digital experience.

I was really surprised ultimately by the quality of the unit when I plugged it in. The display is off high quality such that whatever is in focus in the microscope is crisp.

Battery life is great. I used it for a good bit of time over two days and still had all 3 bars of battery. I got this to use with my father, a retired high-level scientist and he was similarly impressed.

The accessories and controls add to the experience, particularly the side lights, which really help with precision and image quality in suboptimal situations.

The pics I included show the corner of a vintage card I have, which will better allow me if I want to spend the $20 to get it professionally graded as well as the middle, so you can see how sharp the dots of color are. If you have a card or coin collection, this can save a good deal on assessment.

I DO wish the manual was more substantial, as some users might want that off the bat to have the best out of the box experience.

So, really, what I'm saying, is that if you are looking to shell out for a PC microscope in this price range, you shouldn't hesitate to put this guy on your short list
