    I bought this fossil set for my son’s 6th birthday party, planning to give each kid some fossils and let them try to identify them (with my help) and then take them home as party favors. The set is exactly as advertised. There are several more exciting fossils in the set, including a very nice ammonite, piece of petrified wood, coprolite, some good condition medium-sized shark teeth, a piece of dinosaur bone, and a snake vertebra. And then there are tons of small shark teeth, crinoids, gastropods, clams, skate teeth, and corals. The educational materials with the set are fantastic. The pictures make identifying the fossils easy, and they provide good information about broader groups of animals represented, but also where these particular fossils came from and what specific species or genera were represented.

    Before the party I sorted through the set and made a bag for each kid, to ensure that everyone got at least one “wow” sort of fossil, several shark teeth, a clam, etc. Then I had the kids go through their bags and taught them about what they had. The kids (ages 3-10, but mostly 5-6) LOVED it. They were excited about all the fossils. The coprolite was especially beloved once I defined the word for them (poop. It’s fossilized poop. 5-6 year old boys found this hilarious and amazing). Needless to say, this fossil kit made my son’s birthday party one all his friends will be talking about for a while. It’s perfect as a party activity/favors for about 10 kids. If you have more kids, you might want 2 kits so everyone gets enough fossils.

    The kit would also be great as a family educational activity or homeschool lesson.

    My 6 year old grandson and I enjoyed sorting and identifying the fossils. Just challenging enough to take a while, but interesting enough not to loose interest. Cool that there are lots of common fossils to sort through to find the few more rare ones. Dancing Bear did a great job.

    Lots of shark teeth! Learning cards will help the kids classify & understand the various fossils. Nice color pamphlet, also. I am basically happy with this kit. The one draw back is that some of the fragments are very small & crushed, and should be omitted. Picture #1 is an example of this. # 2 shows a wide variety of fossils included in this kit. Other than than the crushed mishmash I am happy with it and know the grandkids will be also!

    The media could not be loaded.
    Great variety of fossils. Includes several bigger (premium) fossils. There are smaller broken pieces, but not too many. This is expected and they even mention it on the included materials.

    The cards are great for a sorting activity, and the kids (preschool age) loved sorting the fossils onto the cards.

    The cards are a decent thickness. I ended up cutting them apart instead of using the perforations. I felt like they would get bent too much if I separated them without cutting.

    I have been buying these kits for years. My kids - even my 10 yo - LOVE playing with them. I give them a Tupperware of water, an old paintbrush, some towels, and have them "wash and clean" the fossils and rocks, then they draw each on paper and ID each from the included chart. It's a great science project that I use to (1) teach geology and (2) grab myself some time. What kind doesn't like rocks, gems, and fossils? Good quality and mix.

    I’ve ordered this a couple of times now and each experience was WILDLY different. The first time I was blown away. Lots of fossils as well as all the extra larger & polished items mentioned in the listing. The second time around I am so sad and disappointed. I was only given the bag of fossils. The polished ammonite, dinosaur poo, and other larger pieces that were mentioned in the listing were ALL missing. I was so sad because that’s mostly why I ordered again. The sorting cards which were included the first time were also missing. On top of this, I received about half of the fossils I received the first time. The first time I got this it was amazing, but I’m really cautious to order again because of how extremely different both packages were. There doesn’t seem to be checks in place to ensure that each customer receives the same quality and quantity
