5.0 out of 5 stars Find me, a bolt cutter that can actually cut bolts 1/16 of an inch
Reviewed in the United States on February 29, 2024
I recently purchased the WORKPRO W017007A Bolt Cutter, and I couldn’t be happier with its performance. The 30-inch size is perfect for various tasks, and it stands out for its ability to effortlessly cut through even 1/16 of an inch wire.

Although it’s not completely effortless, requiring some weight behind it—around 40 to 50 pounds—the chrome molybdenum steel blade is incredibly durable. This ensures long-lasting performance, making it a reliable choice for both DIY projects and professional tasks.

The bi-material handle with a soft rubber grip provides comfort during extended use, making it a pleasure to work with. Overall, if you’re willing to exert a bit of effort, these bolt cutters deliver on their promise of sturdy and effective cutting power. I highly recommend the WORKPRO W017007A.

I’ve had not had to use this tool yet, but they seem to be pretty short. The weight size seems to be good and should get the job done. They seem to be made out of good quality material and should hold up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for typical household jobs on bolts, chains, etc.

I was looking for a good, cheap, long-lasting bolt cutter that I could use to cut 1/8" to slightly larger chains, cables, and protruding bolts and such. In the past I have had to use either a Dremel for bolts, nails and screws, some very heavy duty wire cutters that take a lot of effort, and a hacksaw to do all the things I can now do with this 18" Workpro bolt cutter. Usually I'd try my old, heavy duty, wire cutter on 1/8" aluminum chain, for instance, only to find that all it would do was put a dent in the link. So I'd have to go through my tools to pull out the hacksaw, then I'd have to put the link into a vice for safety and I'd hacksaw away till I cut through. This bolt cutter cuts through the same aluminum chain links as through butter (see picture). It's also good for nails and screws. The only thing it failed to do was properly cut through 1/8" wire cable, that is why I took a star off. I do not recommend it for multi-strand cables because all it does is mush/smash the strands together and spreading them out without really cutting. It does soften the strands a little, but then you have to go back to the cable with a heavy wire cutter to finish the job. I think the problem with cutting stranded cable is that the two cutting surfaces do not "perfectly" and "closely" align. So while they're good for solid items, the miniscule paper-width gap and tiny misalignment are enough for the wire strands to spread out in the gap without getting cut all the way through. The bolt cutter itself is heavy, sold, and seems well made. The soft plastic grips are comfortable to use. After cutting a number of aluminum chain links the cutting edge looks unfazed. I would imagine that if you tried this with stainless steel you might eventually put some nicks into it. Nonetheless, I recommend it for light-use around the house/yard/workshop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cuts through swing set chains!
Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2024
I used this product to shorten the chains on my kid's new swings i bought for the swing set.
It's heavy duty and a good price. As a woman, and not one who works out, I wasn't sure I would be strong enough to cut through the chains but with this large size bolt cutter I was able to do it pretty easily. A little intimidating to use at first, but kind of fun.

Flat nose helps when clipping tight zip ties, string, jute, wire. It cuts neatly. Short handles are light-weight and fit in apron or on a clip. Spring open easy. Durable. Ive even cut vines with them. I didn't get blisters and cut wire fencing all day.
