About this item

In this novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, Detective Eve Dallas' investigation of a homicide at her husband’s hotel leads to a murderer with a passion for the finer things in life—and in death...

At the luxurious Roarke Palace Hotel, a maid walks into suite 4602 for the nightly turndown—and steps into her worst nightmare. A killer leaves her dead, strangled by a thin silver wire. He’s Sly Yost, a virtuoso of music and murder. A hit man for the elite. Lieutenant Eve Dallas knows him well. But in this twisted case, knowing the killer doesn’t help solve the crime. Because there’s someone else involved. Someone with a more personal motive. And Eve must face a terrifying possibility—that the real target may, in fact, be her husband Roarke…

This book is fast paced and kept me up at night wondering who did the murders and why. I love the characters. I had missed this book when I started the series. The book can stand on is own. I did enjoy seeing where the characters were at and how relationships started.

Eve and Rourke are such a hot, sexy couple. They have such great chemistry. They are an excellent balance act. It doesn’t hurt he is so wealthy and she is such a tough cop. I think Yost went down a little' too easy. Overall good characters and good plot.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5-stars: 'Betrayal in Death' by J.D. Robb
Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2021
Betrayal in Death is the twelfth book to J.D. Robb’s In Death series. I finished reading this book back in December 2020. I’ve been meant to review it, but life gets in the way sometimes.

Storyline/My Thoughts: I cannot get enough of Eve Dallas and Roarke. These two characters, plus the secondary characters, make this series addicting. It also helps with the storylines that J.D. Robb makes these characters go through. The title of this book gives you a hint what is the main storyline. This book is going to test relationships and friendships again. I swear both Eve and Roarke need a vacation so that they can get away from drama and death for a while. (I say that in every review because these two deserve a break.) Unfortunately, they have to solve the current crime(s). This book’s villain is easy to figure out since he’s a hitman, but Eve and her team are unsure why he’s targeting certain people who don’t stand out. Roarke may know why, though, since he’s close to the case. Roarke is always involved somehow. I enjoy it when he helps Eve because she’s so stubborn about having her husband help her.

J.D. Robb has become a favorite author of mine, and I can’t wait to dive into the rest of the In Death series. I hope, though, that J.D. Robb slows down, so I can catch up.

Standalone or Part of Series: It’s part of the In Death series.

Would I recommend this book? Yes. I give this book 4.5 stars, and I would recommend this book/series. If you enjoy Romantic Suspense, then you will enjoy this series. If you also love your storylines set in the future, you’ll enjoy this series. I know one thing there better be real coffee in my future and not the fake stuff. I can’t live without my coffee, and when Eve first described coffee, I was upset, but now she gets the good stuff due to Roarke. ????

5.0 out of 5 stars A rather good read and an excellent addition to this long running series
Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2017
This story opens with the brutal beating, rape and murder of a hotel maid; a maid who happens to be working in a grand hotel owned by none other than Roarke! And the killing continues and the body count increases – both men and women. The only thing in common is that they are all connected or employed by – yep, you guest it – Roarke. The back drop in a multi-million auction being given by a well know actress and the auction is being managed by – yup – Roarke.

An old friend from Roarke’s past from Ireland shows up and the plot thickens. Is he one of the good guys or is he one of the bad ones? Only reading will tell!

In this 12th addition to this long lasting and extremely popular series gives us more insight to the relationship between Lt. Eve Dallas and her multi-billionaire husband Roarke. Most of the characters we have become acquainted with in past books are present as per usual, the author has held true as to their personalities and quirks.

This one has enough suspects; some obvious, some not so obvious that it keep the reader interested as to whodoneit right up until almost the end. Prose wise the author holds to her normal high standards. IT must be remembered that these are primarily police procedural/mysteries with a high amount of romance intermingled throughout which is not surprising coming from Nora Roberts.

This work, along with the rest of the books in the series which are around 50 now are easy and fast reads and most of them can well be classified as page turners.

It should also be noted, for those that are interested, that some of the sexual situations in these books can be rather graphic (I suppose intense would be a better description than “graphic’) as well as some of the blood and gore which goes along with murder, i.e. Eve Dallas is a murder cop.

All in all I was well satisfied with this read.

Wonderful well crafted plot. Dallas is at her best in this aided by her handsome husband. The glitter and glam are a delicious backdrop, as Eve fights to keep everyone safe as she goes after an assassin who's been hunted.for.decades.
