About this item

From the bestselling author of In an Instant comes the moving story of a family grappling with grief and a woman with the power to help them through it—or stand in their way.

After a tragic accident claims the life of one of her children, Marie Egide is desperate to carve out a fresh start for her family. With her husband and their three surviving children, Marie travels to New Hampshire, where she plans to sell a family estate and then, just maybe, they’ll be able to heal from their grief.

Marie’s plans are thwarted when she realizes a war veteran known by locals as “the river witch” is living in a cabin on the property, which she claims was a gift from Marie’s grandfather. If Davina refuses to move on, Marie won’t be able to either.

The two women clash, and battle lines are drawn within Marie’s family and the town as each side fights for what they believe is right, the tension rising until it reaches its breaking point. And the choice is no longer theirs when a force bigger than them all—fate—takes control.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful story about love, loss, grief and the importance of forgiveness.

Once again, I am blown away by the way Redfearn writes. “Where Butterflies Wander” is a beautiful, gripping novel about a grieving family torn with grief after a tragedy, and the mistakes made. Looking for a fresh start, a way to heal from their loss. This emotional story is told in multiple POV’s. I was thoroughly engrossed by this book, driven to keep turning the pages as they all grappled with grief, disappointment, and forgiveness. I continued reading on, hoping they’d come out on the other side, and somewhat heal after such a tremendous loss. This is an uplifting and hopeful novel.

I am left with a few quotes I will carry on!

“Anger is a wasted emotion, more detrimental to the bearer than the target.”

“The way I see it, we’re all a bit like curdled milk, so the choice is, you either decide to make cheese or else let the whole thing go to rot.”

“Only when you lose the desire for the things that don’t matter do you start to have fun.”

“We do not choose how long we get to travel this earth.”

4.0 out of 5 stars The Unexpected
Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2024
A rather interesting book in a different sort of way. There was a wide range of characters each of whom faced a situation that presented an opportunity for the reader to learn from them - the wisdom of taking time to think before acting, or not jumping to conclusions, or not keeping secrets, or being honest about one’s feelings, sharing grief, etc. Some of the secrets were current, and others handed down through generations. There was the wisdom of the ages in using nature’s remedies. There was an opportunity to learn about atonement. How do you stand up for the right side when you don’t know the facts of both sides? But that all sounds so serious and it is not. There are interesting characters, humor, exploration of budding love, and a bit of mysterious happenings, and the unexpected around each corner. It will touch your heart.

This is the first time I EVER leave a review!! I did not realize how beautiful this story would be and I’m completely blown away by how endearing it is. Pain, love, growth, peace. From the moment I started it, I felt pulled to continue turning the page. I had to put it down for a moment just because I couldn’t bare the thought of parting with the characters I had grown so found of. I would 1000xs over recommending this book.

Good ending, but I wanted more. I read this book in one day and am rushing to buy her other books. If you haven’t read “In an Instant “, you need to. Suzanne covers tough scenarios perfectly. Her characters are so real you will be thinking about them weeks later.
