About this item

Welcome to Divorce Towers, the Beverly Hills condo where there’s more money than sense…more drama than money…and more heat than one high-rise can hold.

Addison Torres has nothing left to lose in New York: no job, no fiancé, no parents to lean on. So when Uncle Arnie offers her a concierge gig in sunny California, she hops on a plane without looking back.

Before it all came crashing down, Addison had a matchmaking career and handsome partner—then she got a little too cozy with a client. Digging her way out of the wreckage, she’s taken a strict vow of celibacy.

Unfortunately, Addison’s new home is where such promises go to die. As concierge at the luxurious Beekman Towers—nicknamed “Divorce Towers” due to the constant influx of the newly single—she’s in constant demand by Beverly Hills’ most eligible and entitled bachelors. Like Dante, a cocksure talent agent. And Zach, an adorable tech wizard.

Addison Torres thinks she’s ready for anything except love. But in Divorce Towers, the world’s toughest concierge may have finally met her match.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read

Wasn't sure about this book at the beginning but got where I couldn't stop reading it. Easy read with great characters each with an unexpected twist. If you are looking for a slightly comical, sort of a "who done it" with a side passion involving a varied lot of characters, this is the book.

Wasn't sure I was going to like this read as much as I did. I liked the characters and the storyline and Ellen Mister style of writing, the story flowed.

3.0 out of 5 stars My First Reads pick of the month in Aug

I chose this book as my Amazon First reads pick of the month for Aug, also choosing it because it started with "D" which helps me complete my Alphabet reading challenge, so I went into this story blind, not really knowing what it was about. Unfortunately, I spent the rest of the book trying to figure out where it was heading and what it was really about. It's told from the POV of 3 different people, all of which I did not relate too or connect with. They all seemed shallow and very confused by how relationships work. Maybe that was the point, having love right in front of your face and not realizing you already have it because your busy looking elsewhere. There was a little bit of a mystery, but the mystery was very transparent so you aren't surprised by the "Who done it" aspect of it. All in all it was a fun read in a "Reality show" or weird "Rom-com" kind of way.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Quirky, Fun Bit of Fluff
Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2024
An ensemble drama with a varied cast of characters whose lives revolve around the Beekman Towers, an upscale complex in Beverly Hills that is home to numerous wealthy divource(e)s. The story is mainly centered on Addison, a young woman with a talent for matchmaking who has made some bad decisions which blew up her life and is now trying to start fresh. However, she first needs to figure out why she made the choices she did in the past which sabotaged her happiness and hurt people she cared about. Her lovely Uncle Arnie assists her in getting her new life going while dealing with his own romance issues, and that's just the beginning. We meet many different individuals as the novel progresses and the story shifts between their different circumstances and perspectives. The characters are not as developed as they could have been, but I still found them to be quirky and interesting.
I have recently had some difficulty finding books that make me want to keep reading, but this book kept me interested enough to do the job. It felt like I was watching an episode of "Love, American Style" (anyone else old enough to remember that?). This book was a fun bit of fluff that I enjoyed despite its flaws. 4.5 rounded up to 5.

Worth the read. Somewhat predictable but still enjoyable. A few twists and turns. A bit slow and elementary in the writing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sex, Sex, and More Sex
Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2024
In every other chapter, someone is jumping into bed with another one of the characters in the book. In the chapters where no one is jumping into bed, they are contemplating it or talking it over with a friend. There is romance of every kind: heterosexual, bisexual homosexual. The characters that live in the Beekman Towers AKA Divorce Towers, which the title refers to, are all very wealthy and have lives that are over the top. Sometimes in mid chapter it will jump from one scene to another without a warning so you have to kind of backtrack in your reading to figure out where you are.
It’s carefully edited. There are no misspellings so that is a plus. It definitely is escapist literature. You can read it kind of like you’d eat popcorn while watching a movie; kernels of salacious sex in practicallyevery Read it if you want to give your brain a rest.

5.0 out of 5 stars What Goes on Behind Closed Doors (and Under the Sheets)? Here's your Front Row Seat
Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2024
We never know what goes on behind closed doors, but in Ellen Meister’s latest novel, DIVORCE TOWERS, you’re in the room where it happens! There is so much flirting, intimacy and sex, you’ll want to light up. Of course, if you’ve read any of Meister’s previous eight novels you already know to expect a great escape with deeply flawed characters whose vulnerabilities are honest and relatable. Think LOVE BOAT meets LOVE AMERICAN STYLE (Google these shows if you’re too young to remember).

It all starts with the young, beautiful Addison Torres, a recently fired New York City matchmaker who needs a fresh start after sleeping with a client and losing her fiancé (oops). As repentance for her poor judgment, she takes a vow of celibacy only to wonder if she can fudge the start date as Dante, her seatmate on a flight to LA, is, well, SO damn hot.

Which is when the story takes off.

Turns out Dante lives in Beekman Towers, a ritzy residence catering to the perennially divorced and is a neighbor of Addison’s Uncle Arnie, a Viagra popping plastic surgeon who loves the ladies (and they love him)! Oh, Lordy. Uncle Arnie got Addison a job working as the building’s new concierge and somehow, she will have to discreetly navigate this hotbed of temptation while keeping a literal “score” card of who hooked up. But her new gig gets off to a rocky start after discovering the crazy demands on her were never listed in her job description and when her own steamy affairs complicate her work/life balance. Uncle Arnie to the rescue? Not this time!

DIVORCE TOWERS is an unpredictable rom.com that is also smart with heart. Readers will feel every ounce of the characters’ insecurities while rooting for them to finally celebrate love and maybe even fidelity. It may not be everyone’s kind of story, but if you love fun, fast paced books that grab you on page one and hold on tight, you will hear the elevator ring and say, I am so getting on.

I first read Ms. Meister's Dorothy Parker books, and enjoyed them a lot, so I took a chance on this one. It is not my normal kind of read, being more on the romance side, but it's well handled, she has a great ear for dialogue, and does charming characters. I think the right reader would enjoy this immensely. In spite of my grumpy nature, I still found it a brisk and enjoyable read.
