About this item

There's one rule smart hockey players know not to break: never, and I mean, NEVER date the coach's daughter. But no one ever accused Van of being smart.

When the mouthy bad boy of the Appies catches the groom cheating on the coach's daughter, he can't just walk away. Not on her wedding day.

Maybe his own relationships are casual, but he would never cheat and
never treat wedding vows so carelessly. Not after he and his sisters watched their divorced parents cycle through marriage after marriage.

But forcing the groom to come clean sets off a chain reaction Van couldn't have expected.

Ending with a black eye, an unexpected trip to Florida with one runaway bride, and a secret bargain struck with Coach.

A bargain that may just jeopardize the very real and very inconvenient feelings he's developing for the very last person he ever should.

Runaway Bride and Prejudice is a closed door hockey romance featuring the team bad boy and a very good girl who also happens to be the coach's daughter. It's a sports romance with all the sizzle and swoon, but no spice.

This is part of the Appies hockey romance series, featuring Just Don't Fall, Absolutely Not in Love, a Groom of One's Own, and Romancing the Grump. These books are standalones but may be best read in order.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another reason to love the Appies ????

I love, love, love this series, and I loved this story. Goodness, Van is ????????. I kinda adore when a guy is more than he seems (hello, secretly craves commitment), and then you throw in a protective instinct and some long term pining... this is Van. His insta-love story with his coach's daughter is fireworks on the page for the entire story!

The best parts of this story happen in elevators and stairwells. They are excellent for hitting all the right notes of tension in the story. Speaking of which... there is some unpleasant tension in the dreaded miscommunication device, but it isn't a surprise. Totally expected. It isn't often I feel like I need to peek at the end to see how things work out, but holy angst, Batman! I spent 65% of the book with all the butterflies, only to nearly chew my nails to pieces until all was right again in the world. The bonus epilogue is AMAZING, and the cherry on top of a really fun romcom.

I LOVED this book. It’s definitely not the type I usually go for and I have to say I’m a little disappointed that there wasn’t more tension between the two, but all in all it was amazing. I loved the banter, the way Van is just so sweet and how Amelia was able to find her voice in things.
I laughed, I FELT for the characters, and I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the next MOMENT.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite hockey romcoms!

Runaway Bride & Prejudice may be my favorite Appies book yet. I adored it! This fun, funny, sweet hockey romcom gave me Wedding Singer vibes, which I absolutely loved, but is definitely its own thing. I loved Robbie & Mills aka Van & Amelia so much! Their good girl/bad boy romance was so well done & deserves all the stars.

Amelia & Van met a year before & both felt a sizzling attraction between them, but when Van found out she was the coach’s daughter, it was a no go. Now Amelia’s getting ready to get married when Van spies the groom cheating on her. Though not heartbroken, Amelia still wants someone to go on her honeymoon with her & asks Van. Amelia’s dad also asks Van to accompany her (without her knowledge) but makes it clear, Van’s there to strictly keep an eye on her & nothing else.

Despite their best efforts, it’s nearly impossible to ignore the spark between them. As they spend time together, it’s hard not to fall for each other. But, she’s the coach’s daughter who just ended one relationship & is definitely off limits.

I loved this story! I’m not going to spoil anything, but Ch. 17 threw me for a loop. I did not see it coming & it was such a great twist. The chemistry between Mills & Robbie is off the charts & I loved their banter, Keanu Reeves inside jokes, all the crazy honeymoon activities including alligators, & the fun texts & ribbing from Van’s teammates. It was even more fun when Van’s sisters show up. I loved them & hope we get to see them in the future. This story was so hard to put down & the ending had me smiling & laughing over the “third time’s the charm.”

It’s another beloved Appies hockey romance, & definitely a new favorite. Highly recommend to closed door romcom fans!

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful Romp

I’m just a girl, standing in front of my bookshelf, in love with this book. Runaway Bride and Prejudice might just be my new favorite from Emma St Clair.
Amelia's wedding day is a disaster between her cold feet, guilt, and a last minute save when the groom and her cousin are caught red-handed together. Van, the team's player -the player of players, that is - is the four letter word his coach grumbles about at home, but suddenly the runaway bride's chauffeur. Convinced to get out of town, Amelia and Van throw caution to the wind and take her honeymoon trip.
Between the fast pace, potential for rebound feelings (Amelia), and lack of previous commitment (Van), Emma had a big battle ahead of her with me as a reader. But from chapter one, I was sucked in by the humor and chemistry that blooms between the main characters. I loved them both dearly and the supporting cast was perfect at every turn. This is absolutely fun and the best hug of a book.
Thank you to the author for this delightful romp of a good story! All thoughts are my own.
