About this item

Mitch Rapp faces an Iranian foe bent on destabilizing the Middle East in the newest thriller from Vince Flynn’s #1 New York Times bestselling series that answers the question Vince Flynn fans have been asking for thirteen years: what role did Mitch Rapp play in the operation to Capture or Kill Osama bin Laden?

April 2011: On a remote mountaintop overlooking the remains of the Iranian nuclear weapons program, Azad Ashani witnesses a Quds Force demonstration of a capability meant to upend America’s war in the Middle East. Ashani, director of the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Security and Irene Kennedy’s former back channel to the Iranian government, recognizes the demonstration’s true significance, and the nation-ending conflict it will provoke. Alone, Ashani stands no chance of preventing this rush to madness.

But with the help of one man, he just might.

In Washington, DC, CIA director Irene Kennedy briefs the president that the operational window to kill or capture Osama bin Laden at his recently discovered compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan is rapidly closing. But before he’ll authorize a commando raid on Pakistani soil, the president demands irrefutable proof of bin Laden’s presence.

Proof he trusts just one man to provide.

Preventing a looming war in the Middle East while delivering justice for the nearly 3,000 Americans killed on 9/11 would be a big ask for anyone.

Mitch Rapp isn’t just anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars And the spirit of Vince Flynn is back!!

Only on page 38, but just had to stop and write a review to say – the spirit of Vince Flynn writing is back! Thanks so much Don Bentley and all who have brought this book forward.~

I have read Vince Flynn’s books over and over, but have struggled with the last several and the writing style. Vince Flynn’s writing has always been like a balm of sorts, it is so well done. I wasn’t sure if I would like this new writer, but I downloaded the sample and just bought my first Kindle book.

Who knows how it will unfold, but the writing is great and the context has been superb so far. Honoring the old, advancing in a natural way, and integrating all that is evolving. So grateful!

Thank you to Lisa and all who have continued to honor Vince, his writing, and his spirit to keep Mitch Rapp alive; especially through this new book and author. Never easy, but I am very grateful. And the book has a great plot so far. Thank you so much again.~

I have read every book in this series. This novel was very good. Fast moving, exciting, and “how is he going to get out of this situation”.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bentley’s debut and an untold tale of Mitch Rapp
Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2024
Unlike some other reviewers, I was thrilled that Bentley set his first Mitch Rapp tale back in the earlier days of the series. Mitch Rapp, the family man, hasn’t been working for me, so seeing this earlier version back in action—more of a rootless lone wolf—was a lot of fun. That said (and as some others have mentioned), the book started off slower than expected, had some actual typos, and Bentley’s continued reuse of “putting steel into” and “running agents” had me wondering whether we’d need to chip in and buy him a thesaurus. I shouldn’t have worried. About halfway through, the pace accelerates and continues to build to a satisfying crescendo. I also was happy to see Mike Nash again—IMO, Mills did him wrong—and the “return” of Stan Hurley, an irreplaceable character who aged out far too soon. By the end, it felt more like Vince Flynn than any of the books since he passed away. Here’s hoping Bentley can not only build on that momentum, but maybe find a way to unload some of the baggage both Mitch Rapp and the series have picked up over the past decade, and get back to basics. Either that, or write more “Untold Tales of Mitch Rapp,” like this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Rapp seat of his pants thriller.

I liked the throw back to the Bin Laden raid. At first I thought Rapp was somehow going to be involved but he wasn’t just a side participant before the actual raid. The appearance of Hurley though seemed a bit over the top and seemed to be an unnecessary addition to the story. Enjoyable but certainly not the best Rapp novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mitch Rapp is alive and well, and in good hands

CAPTURE OR KILL by Don Bentley

It’s a literary conundrum… breath easy as the Mitch Rapp series is alive and well, in good hands, or hold your breath and buckle in, as you’re in for a wild ride. CAPTURE OR KILL is Don Bentley’s first installment in the Mitch Rapp series and our beloved protagonist is back. In so many ways, it feels like the operative we’ve come to love and admire. Bentley did his homework, and it shows as he integrates a new story into a fitting space in the saga. Old favorites are back—Stan Hurley and Mike Nash—and it’s a joy to see them again. Bentley touches upon events from the recent past for that point in the timeline with deft aplomb. There are moments when it truly feels like Vince Flynn was behind the keyboard.

At the same time, Don Bentley brings his own skill and experience to the saga which is welcomed. Bentley adeptly wove his knowledge and rich military experience into a critical subplot that more accurately grounded the combat operations that were occurring in 2011 Afghanistan, giving CAPTURE OR KILL a visceral and appreciated authenticity. As for the events in Abbottabad leading up to the raid that killed Osama bin Laden on 2 May 2011, it’s a creative twist on that audacious effort, suitably plausible. Well done.

As for the legions of diehard Rapp Ambassadors and Enthusiasts, but your fears aside and rest easy. Mitch Rapp is in good hands. CAPTURE OR KILL is not to be missed.

Can’t wait for what’s next.
