As this is my first book by Valerie Keogh I have to say that the author has captured the entirety of love and obsessions. The rippling effects of how people make dangerous decisions and wade through the aftermath. I was enraptured with the seemingly effortless way the tale unfolds drawing the reader in to the story from the first paragraph. Off to read another. Happy reading.

I’ve read two other books by Valerie Keogh and enjoyed them immensely, so I’d anticipated another great psychological thriller experience while reading The Mother. I can honestly say that what I imagined I’d get is exactly what I bargained for. The best thrillers leave the reader unsure of who the true culprit is, and for most of the book I really wasn’t sure. The majority of the characters wonder if Sarah had something to do with Kaya’s disappearance. It made me question that theory, too. Given how unhappy Sarah is with Nick and how trapped she feels, maybe she planned it all along, in an effort to rid herself of the thrust-upon family she never truly felt ready for.

And then there’s Nick. He seemed too perfect and too attentive, especially after the distance Sarah tries to put between them. But when Kaya goes missing, he is the most distraught, while Sarah doesn’t display much emotion at all. Is she keeping it together for Nick, or is Nick putting on a show for the authorities, in an effort to downplay his potential involvement? Lastly, Sarah’s best friend Jade has a sudden change of heart towards the whole scenario, which made me question whether she might have had something to do with it. She’s spent years as Sarah’s confidante, listening to Sarah complain about the relationship she’s been stuck in. Maybe she decided it was time to stir up some chaos in order to change the status quo.

Step by step, it was tough to decipher what the true motives were and what really happened to baby Kaya, until it is eventually revealed by way of hidden secrets and a ton of lies. Two detectives fight like mad to get to the bottom of things, with the revelation reaching a tight crescendo into possible destruction. But who can the detectives trust? And will it be too late? The unknown kept me guessing and kept me reading–I literally read The Mother in nearly two days because I couldn’t put it down. I had to know what happened to baby Kaya, and whodunnit in general. It was a slow burn psychological ride with plenty of twists to keep thrill seekers like me on the hook!

Page turner. Never guessed the ending. That's really all I have to say but they are insisting that the review has to be 20 words.

Don't know what to say about this story. There so many different conflicting sets of feelings. I didn't know whose side to be on. But when it all came together it made all the sense in the world.

No spoilers because you just have to read it to believe —— the ending coming at you like a rogue hit an run leaving you speechless as you pick up the pieces Found this one after another one of Valerie Keogh’s books ….. it all started with The Nurse which was available on Amazon. I think I’m going to bing read everything I can get my hands on by this author. There’s never a dull moment as I stay up way past my bedtime reading late into the night. These are the kind of books that leave you wanting more of the character’s lives and relationships. It’s almost like the end of a serious crush when you have the page for ratings suddenly pop up. I nearly groaned when this one plunged into an ending. Off to Amazon to another Keogh masterpiece. It’s gonna be a long time before it’s lights out for me ……

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book!

I had previously read The Mistress and The Mother by this author, so I was ecstatic to get this one! I only hoped I would like it as much as the other two, and it did not disappoint!
Sarah should be thrilled to be married to her perfect, handsome, kind husband Nick. But she knows she made a mistake and wants out. Nick wants something else – a baby; so Sarah agrees. When the baby arrives and Sarah can’t bond with her, she resents Nick even more. When baby Kaya goes missing, Sarah’s world comes crashing down. Will they find Kaya and save her marriage?
WOW – that about sums up everything that happens in this book. First you think one person is responsible, then another, then another until you are shocked to find out who is responsible for all that happens. I could not wait to keep reading and see what happened and the twists and surprises just kept coming. I will definitely recommend this book to everyone!
