About this item

They’re falling in love, yet they’ve never met. Maybe fate can intervene in a heartwarming “what-if” short story about new beginnings by the New York Times bestselling author of Yours Truly.

Holly is dealing with the impending death of her grandmother and still reeling from a bad breakup. One bright spot: a Valentine’s Day card on Holly’s windshield—even if it wasn’t meant for her. An amusing mistake soon turns into a lovely exchange of anonymous notes, little acts of kindness, and a growing affection between two strangers. What happens when one of them has to say goodbye?

Abby Jimenez’s Worst Wingman Ever is part of The Improbable Meet-Cute, irresistibly romantic stories about finding love when and where you least expect it. They can be read or listened to in one sitting. Let’s make a date of it.

Meet cute is a thing, so I’ve this little collection which I didn’t know was what it is nor why I have it. Still. I don’t recall deciding to try but I’m really glad I did as the novellas in it are just wonderful stories. No nightmares after these just a pleasant glow and maybe a bit of a smile. I like your work, Abby. Thanks you. :^)

This series started off on an amazingly high level of awesomeness. I was really hoping that this second book would be at least up to that level or close to it. While it is a cute story and the subject matter is Extremely important (Holly’s side of it-I don’t want to diminish that). It is very slow and it’s only a few notes and the reveal while not unexpected was no where as fun as the first book. Here’s hoping that the rest of the series will be more enjoyable.

Abby Jimenez is a definite favorite of mine—I can always expect her books to contain humor yet raw emotion, both, and bring incredible wisdom with life lessons to the table. An appreciated trend I notice with her stories is how she incorporates real life ways to manage anxiety (in this case, “go outside and touch the grass”) to de-escalate yourself and bring clarity to any given situation. I love her style of mixing in handwritten letters to the script and how she tends to write from a medical POV—Part of Your World and Yours Truly are written from a doctorate character in the medical world, and this novella is written from a hospice nurse standpoint taking end-of-life-care for her grandma. I love that relation, being a nurse myself, and respect how she is always on point for how we feel with compartmentalizing hard/sad situations. . . Needless to say, I can go on and on how much I adore Jimenez’s writing style, and her books have my heart—she is so underrated in the book community!!! ????????

Other themes in this novella are small acts of kindness, taking life by the reigns and demanding what you need, sisterly bonding/inside jokes, and taking chances toward your fate. I wanted just a bit more from the end, but at only 60 pages, this was such a cute story in The Improbable Meet-Cute series. ????

5.0 out of 5 stars Her knight in shining armor

Instead of tossing out by a note left in error on her car, Holly leaves it there for retrieval. In so doing she unwittingly opens the door to exchanging notes with John, who is renovating his brother's apartment in the same building her grandmother lives. A good read overall, with the sweetness of the MCs' "relationship" and the sobering take on Grandma's end of life. Lesson learned - Take responsibility for your own unhappiness.
