This book has it all. Humor, horror (the family kind), romance, spice, and drama.
I picked it up on my Christmas romcom binge and I am not sorry.
The story us cute, if not a bit redundant. It's a revenge plot against the main characters sister. But I didn't care bc Alina does a fantastic job building her characters in a short period of time. I loved the ones I was supposed to and I hated the ones I was supposed to. It's a basic romcom formula with solid writing by the author. By the end I was crying happy and sad tears bc I was so wrapped up in the family. I wished I was there having Christmas in their sheer chaos she also does such a great job with dialogue, there's definitely some of the more eye rolling moments but you learn to forgive it bc the family dialogue just makes you laugh and the partners make you feel something inside.
It didn't get 5 stars bc it is a romcom and sure I love the characters but the way the family treats Gracie is kind of terrible and tho I'm sure it's true somewhere, it doesn't end like it does in the book. Some of it makes you sad, some of it makes you roll your eyes. There's a lot of trauma in general in the book, and it got to be a little too much.
But at the end of the day, the spice level in the book (3/5 on the chili scale- the scenes that Alina wrote are fantastic, but there could be more. ;)) and the funny and sweet moments with the big bang at the end, it was enough for me to say, if you're like me and like a romcom with a spice level and some silly fun in an imaginary world with a hot bad boy falling for the soft good girl. This is the one for you.
Now excuse me as I go follow another Wynter brother.
Don't worry, I'll report back.
