About this item

Finding missing children is Matthew’s job—but this time it’s his own daughter who’s disappeared.

When private investigator Matthew Hill picks up the call from his wife, Sally, his world comes crashing down. Their eight-year-old daughter, Amelie, is missing. One second, she was there, the next, she was gone.

It’s the very nightmare they’ve been dreading. Long ago, Matthew left the force after a woman blamed him for her son’s death, promising that he too would one day feel her pain. It’s a threat that’s hung over his family ever since, and now it’s Amelie’s picture on the news.

Matthew knows how these things go—the longer their daughter is missing, the less hope there is of finding her alive.

As the clock ticks and a canal is searched, he and Sally must reckon with their greatest fear…

REVIEW :

This author’s previous books for me were Tell Me Lies (‘23 - 3 Stars), Her Perfect Family (‘21 - 4 Stars), I Will Make You Pay (‘20 - 4 Stars), The Promise (‘19 - 4 Stars), The Friend (‘18 - 4 Stars) and I Am Watching You (‘17- 5 Stars).

On 12/1/24 I cancelled my pre-order which was due 1/1/25 because this book became an Amazon Kindle First Read for Dec 2024. Sale $1.99; reg. 4.99

Like the writing, like always, and the pace of the story. At about 1/2 way I didn’t like where the story went; didn’t think it went together. Kind of like puzzle pieces from two different puzzles that don’t gel. Let’s see if maybe something connects better down the road. At 75% feel like I’m reading two different books. I went with 4 stars because I liked the endings for Amelie and Olivia too. Still think it felt like two books that got mashed together. Still love ya - Teresa !

Very well written mystery that kept my attention. An 8 year old goes missing while shopping with mom. The story, actions and motivations of the characters seemed believable. To me , at least, not predictable so it was suspenseful. Recommend.

It wasn't a bad read, but I did find myself skimming through pages because it was just so drawn out. Not sure I will read more from this author, but it was a solid 3 star book.

Tears fall from my eyes as I reach the conclusion of this captivating story. What is it like to have your 8 year old snatched away? What is the emotional impact on the parents? Their friends? And what would it be like to be the child of the deranged kidnapper? Teresa Driscoll skillfully invites the reader into this journey of pain, anger, blaming and grief. This is a Powerfully written, gripping novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Entertaining..

This book was frustrating in that the build-up, rising tension & the chapters devoted to each of the main characters actually made me anxious!
It’s well-written and is a different take on a child being kidnapped, which is everyone’s worst nightmare. I recommend it.
