About this item
From USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn comes a romantic comedy novella about the magic and misadventures of a one-night stand.
Recently divorced Cooper Chance knows he’s officially in a rut when his parents take him barhopping in the hope of resuscitating his love life. At first, he’s skeptical. How could a gritty dive bar possibly solve his problems? But then he runs into Nora McHale.
Nora isn’t at the bar looking for love. She’s there to unwind after yet another exhausting day at her bakery. And even if she were hoping to meet someone, it sure wouldn’t be Cooper—her best friend’s ex-husband.
According to the unwritten rules of romance, Cooper and Nora are completely off limits to each other. But after a fun, flirty night at the bar, they can’t ignore the wild attraction between them.
Is this the beginning of something real, or will their passionate night together be their one and only?

This was a funny and cute quick read. The banter was perfect and add a bit of heat to it for the best novella I’ve read so far this year. You can’t go wrong with humor, bickering and some tension from the way they know each other. I really enjoyed this book, but of course wished it had ended with an HEA. Highly recommend this book. Well written for sure.

The story follows Cooper, a guy who finds himself divorced and single in his twenties, spending more time with his parents than is probably healthy, and he's dissatisfied with just about every aspect of his life. So when Cooper's parents decide to be his wingmen and take him to a bar to find a nice girl, well, he knows that things are truly unraveling for him. Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, Cooper runs into his ex-wife's best friend, Nora, while out with his parents. They've known each other for years, but Cooper has always looked at Nora through the lens of a married man, and... he's not married anymore. Now they see each other in a different light, and there just might be a connection there.
It says right in the blurb that Cooper and Nora have a one night stand, so that wasn't a surprise for me. I was more surprised by how quickly Nora was willing to jeopardize an important friendship by sleeping with her bestie's ex-husband. It all happened a little too quickly and easily for me, personally. Seems like this would've been more suited to an angsty slow burn, which I assume is what we'll get in The Reunion - but the damage is already done. I have a little less respect for both characters now, especially with the way things are left. So that does dampen my excitement for The Reunion a bit, though I'm definitely still looking forward to it. Do I think this is required reading before The Reunion? Kinda. It'll give you an idea of the tone and some of the roadblocks in that book, though The Reunion follows several characters and couples in one, big, beefy family drama. We'll see how it all plays out soon!
Audio note: The audio was solid! It's dual narration and the runtime is only about 2 hours, so this is a fast, easy listen - and included in my KU subscription. I didn't love the heroine's voice, but I got used to it pretty quickly - no major issues there. I'd be interested in listening to them both again in The Reunion, if that's how it's narrated. You could certainly listen to this at the office, there's only a little bit of steam and the rest is light and playful. Overall, the same kind of quick tease as the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Then something happens"
I almost choked laughing so hard while I ate. This is quite literally one of the FIRST. ** LAUGHING WARNINGS** I've ever had to give.
As a middle aged woman who had birthed a child, merely laughing (or sneezing, coughing, or even just blinking too hard) can have catastrophic results if you aren't careful, and this book was nearly responsible for a few of those, um, ... near emergencies!!
????????????
Regardless and even though!!! It would have been completely worth it!!!
I look forward to reading the next one in the series!
