About this item

The fourth installment in the beloved and New York Times bestselling series from Richard Osman, also author of We Solve Murders

“The best Murder Club book yet. . . A poignant complement to both the fair-play mystery plot and the characters’ lively humor.”

—The New York Times Book Review

It's rarely a quiet day for the Thursday Murder Club.

Shocking news reaches them—an old friend has been killed, and a dangerous package he was protecting has gone missing.

The gang's search leads them into the antiques business, where the tricks of the trade are as old as the objects themselves. As they encounter drug dealers, art forgers, and online fraudsters—as well as heartache close to home—Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim have no idea whom to trust.

With the body count rising, the clock ticking down, and trouble firmly on their tail, has their luck finally run out?

And who will be the last devil to die?

These books are a wonderful counterpoint to the world today. Wonderful characters. Silly, fun, good stories. Entirely improbable. Good books.

The Last Devil to Die is written by Richard Osman. It is Book #4 of the Thursday Murder Club series.
Disturbing news reaches Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron & Ibrahim - the Thursday Murder Club. An old friend has been murdered and a ‘special’ package he was protecting has gone missing.
In their desire to solve the murder, the group encounters drug dealers, art forgers, antiques dealers, antiquities experts and fraudsters of all types. As the body count increases, they don’t know who to trust.
Brilliant plotting, likeable, quirky characters, a nice retirement village, lots of cakes, snacks and wine and lots of information and thoughts on dementia and end of life directives.
The dialogue and diary entries (thanks to Joyce) are interesting, funny, endearing, surprising, charming, intelligent and very often deeply thought-provoking.
I seem to be addicted to The Thursday Murder Club! *****

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read, perhaps not as enjoyable as the first three in the series.

I have enjoyed all four of the "Thursday Murder Club" series including this one, but this one least of the four. I like the way the main characters are evolving, but I feel the author is exploring more human themes and emotions, and getting a little "preachy". Also, the plots are all a bit implausible, but this one more so than the others.
In his postscript he says he's going to give the "Murder Club" a rest for a bit, and return to them sometime in the future, and I think that's a good thing.

Just when I decide Richard Osman couldn’t possibly write a better book than his last one, he proves me wrong again.

I loved everything about this perfect, poignant, murder mystery. It is charming, and witty, and totally fun. Impossibly good.

It makes a change to read a story that is written in our time ,in that it is easy to relate to the characters as they live their lives in parallel to our own. Things such as a tv show they watch or a place we might know or at least recognize makes the story much more vivid. Loved the characters and Joyce's diary.

I am a mystery lover. The genre is thoroughly fascinating to me. This series and this book in particular is exceptional because it not only pays attention to the standards of the format, but develops the characters into the kind of people that jump at you from the page into your head and heart. It’s thoroughly charming, heartbreaking, humane and all with some of the best prose passages written in the last few years.

I love mystery and spy thrillers, but the thing that keeps me coming back to Cooper's Chase is the people. There's a lot of care in creating this community and I appreciate it.
