About this item

Torment Part One is a dark, taboo, MC, contemporary romance.

How did I get here? Broken, bruised, and mentally shattered. For most of my life, my older stepbrother, Shay, was my hero, my rock, and my best friend. The one I knew I could always rely on. For many years, I accepted everyone and everything around me. But as I grew up, the veil was lifted, and I slowly came to understand how f*cked up it all really is.

These men, who I considered uncles and close family friends, are members of the dominant MC, The Celtic Beasts. Shay is not only a proud member. He is the one they send in to do their dirty work. For some reason, this tough, muscled, terrifying guy, needs me to ground and comfort him. But I have always had bigger plans. Bigger dreams. I don’t want to be trapped here, in this life that is dark, bloody and violent. I want to get out, escape… but Shay has other plans for me.

What do you do when your protector becomes the very root of your torment?

Buckle up—you’re in for a wild ride with this one. While there are a few minor issues, like moments of inconsistent phrasing (“he had me straddling him and then I was looking up at him”) or some grammatical hiccups, the story itself is absolutely gripping. This book will grab hold of you and won’t let go. I found myself devouring each chapter, anxious to see what happened next.

It’s dark, twisted, and utterly compelling—like watching a car crash you just can’t look away from. It tugs at your heartstrings and hooks you so deeply that you’ll feel like you can’t breathe, consumed by the tension and fear.

I finished it and immediately dived into the second book in the series—I couldn’t wait to see what happened next.

Diving into this series was like getting on a rollercoaster – thrilling, messy, and I couldn't stop! From the very first page to the last, I was hooked, and of course, had to jump straight into book 2.

Meet Shay, our not-so-typical hero with a love story that's all shades of messed up. He's possessive, a bit of a control freak, but hey, he cares for Mina in his own twisted way. The catch? It involves some pretty wild and borderline criminal moves.

Now, don't get me wrong, there's some discomfort here. Moments between Shay and Mina during her childhood are eyebrow-raising. Wish the author didn't throw in such a big age gap; would've made things a bit less 'whoa, really?'

As Shay plays mind games and messes with Mina's life, you're in for a ride. The dark and twisted stuff is both disturbing and addictive. But just when you're all in, the ending hits like a ton of bricks – abrupt and somehow devastating.

Characters here are like a bag of mixed candies – Mina's got her own perception journey, her mom's life is tragically complicated, and James is a real enigma. Keenan? More of a bud than a lover, but cool.

In a nutshell, if you're into stories that are a bit dark, a bit messed up, and characters that'll mess with your head, this series is your jam. It's like a wild ride through love, darkness, and a bit of redemption. Buckle up! ????✨

5.0 out of 5 stars I’m just about speechless

I couldn’t even write this review right away. I literally had to take a solid DAY to sort myself out enough to even begin to articulate my feelings. The last book to wreck me THIS hard was Darling Vemon…I road to work yesterday in complete silence. I wanted to listen to a hockey romance to cheer me up but Shay just scoffed at THAT nonsense in my head. Said HE’D be the only thing I’d think about. So silence it was.
This was an insidious read that literally keeper up on you page by page. Some serious psychological warfare without a doubt. I STILL can’t do this read justice as it ends on a MAJOR cliffy but I wanted to try before book 2 took me too far away as I’m 60% through that one.
I can’t even review this as I don’t want to give even a SECOND of this story away. I want you to live in it like I did. Just know our h is so strong and a light in the darkness of so many. She sees the good in everything and that’s problematic.
All in all this was THE best book I’ve read this year, hands down. So sneakily written, a beautiful disaster you think you see coming, only for your emotions to be violently wretched in a different direction before you even know it. Dylan Page is a master at her craft. This story blew my mind and still heavily in it now.
All in all I can’t really say more on this book. Just that I hurt for our h and the others in another way. That watching her reminds me of me and a few others I know. Maybe that’s why it hits so hard? Regardless, I guarantee I’ll never forget this and I’m already ready to read again. Of course I will be purchasing the paperbacks as I need to have these forever.

3.0 out of 5 stars What an... odd story
Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2021
I don't really know how I feel about this book, not because it was so good or so dark or so anything... it was just... different. I found the story compelling and hard to put down, but not because it was really good or this extremely dark story, more so because with the break and forth between the past and present I felt a need to know what exactly it was that happened to Mina. Of course we know from the start that *something* violent happened but what exactly we don't quite know. I need to know.

Character development and world building in the book are overall pretty darn good and gave this book a lot. Each of the main characters have depth, and their history and growth is slowly revealed throughout the book. The author did great there. And the world building with MC life and even the ballet terms and techniques seemed pretty on point, though I'm no expert. It definitely helped give the story life.

The story itself, however, is just okay. It's not bad, don't get me wrong, but I don't know it's just.. okay. From the very beginning it doesn't make much sense - Why would Emily stay with James at the beginning? Why are James and Shay so compelled to make Emily and Mina stay after knowing them, what?, a month? Shay's instant attachment to Mina makes absolutely no sense, and essentially the entire story is based off of a thirteen year old's infatuation with a seven year old that isn't explained at all, not really. Once Mina is sixteen there's this supposed explanation that she figures out, but really it makes no sense. None. We are to believe that this thirteen year old met a seven year old and she instantly became his only "light in the dark".... I don't know... the concept is eyeroll-worthy. I think that's what I've struggled with the most here... it just makes no sense.

There's also a lot of really long paragraphs where the author tells the story. The story should tell itself because the reader is shown the story. Those long drawn out paragraphs with minimal dialogue can get a touch boring. They can be essential to a story, but they can't be the whole story. I found myself skimming trying to get to the good parts.

An additional issue is the tense of the story. The author does a lot of back and forth between present tense and past tense within not just a chapter but in the middle of a scene. That's very distracting. It makes sense between the parts of the story that are taking place in the present versus the past, but even the past scenes are often half in present tense and half past tense. It becomes very difficult to read that way.

I want to know what happened and what happens going forward. I hope that part two makes more sense of it.
