About this item

From New York Times bestselling authors Karin Slaughter and Lee Child comes this electrifying short story featuring their iconic characters Will Trent and Jack Reacher.

Twice the action.

Twice the drama.

Double the trouble.

Will Trent is undercover at Fort Knox. His assignment: to investigate a twenty-two-year-old murder. His suspect’s name: Jack Reacher.

Jack Reacher is in Fort Knox on his own mission: to bring down a dangerous criminal ring operating at the heart of America’s military. Except now Will Trent is on the scene.

But there’s a bigger conspiracy at play—one that neither the special agent nor the ex-military cop could have anticipated. And the only option is for Jack Reacher and Will Trent to team up and play nicely. If they can…

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting short story

This short story combines Karin Slaughter's character Will Trent and Lee Child's character Jack Reacher. The story is somewhat confusing as to how the two characters got together. It is partially cleared up at the end but there is a even bigger mystery as the climax of the story. The findings of the two men raised the prospect of the end of life in America as we know it, but there appears to be no follow up novel and the reader is left agonizing over whether or not this could be true. The story is predominantly sedate, with two men working in the gold storage area of Fort Knox. There is one episode that seems classic Jack Reacher when they shoot up a bar and capture some bad guys, but the action is relatively limited in the rest of the book. It was an interesting novel to read and if these two authors were to get together again I would certainly purchase that book.

Loved the story line and uniting of these two characters. But the story was to short. Able to finish in a couple hours. When does the rest of the story come out?

3.0 out of 5 stars Straight up rip off, You.Will.Hate.It

First, this is not a short story. It's a start of a short story that ends abruptly with almost nothing resolved. I've read everything I can find about it and it seems that there is no plan to finish the short story. As I turned the last page - instead of the story continuing I get about 70 pages of advertisements about Child's and Slaughter's next books.

This is the single biggest ripoff I've ever been inflicted with on Amazon.

What you do get is 79 pages, that could have been really good, but you end up with this howler of a scam that's going right into the trash.

Published by William Morrow and Harper Collins. You should be ashamed. Screw the reader - it's our money they're after.

Very intersecting combo of characters. On the one hand, we have Will Trent, the tall, three-piece suit FBI agent who had a tough upbringing but is very smart. On the other hand, you have Jack Reacher, an ex-military man with his own compass for right and wrong.

Will and Jack are brought together into Fort Knox for very different reasons. Will is looking into a cold case and Jack is investigating into some funny business inside Fort Knox. Will doesn’t know if he can trust Jack and vice-versa until a new problem surfaces for both.

I’m a HUGE Will Trent fan. He’s perfectly imperfect. Good detective skills, strong and smart with a good heart. He loves the law and he's great with numbers.

Jack Reacher is a smart person too. He’s super strong and deadly. Yet, he’s guided by justice. He's actually taller than Will!

Quite a lot of fun to have these two worlds colliding. I’m sure Slaughter and Child had a blast writing it.

I've to admit (don't kill me) that I haven't read any of Jack Reacher's books (I've seen the movies with Tom Cruise). After, reading Cleaning the Gold, I need to carve some time for this Lee Child's series.

    Cliffhanger: No

This book is more like a prologue for some other Will Trent book. Very little Reacher, and what is there doesn’t feel like Reacher. The book just stops and then plugs a Will Trent book.

    Waste of time and money.
