About this item

From debut author Tamara L. Miller comes a suspenseful psychological thriller tracking the mysteries of a seemingly mundane life as they come to light in the vast, unforgiving Canadian wilderness.

For better or for worse, Sarah Anderson has it all: a thriving career, a nice home in Ottawa, two young kids…and a marriage coming apart at the seams.

Then her husband, Matthew, vanishes without a trace during a family vacation up north. Sarah and her children are nearly lost among the slumbering lakes, treacherous cliffs, and brooding forests of the Canadian Shield. A glacier-scraped realm of ancient beauty and terror, it’s a world away from the safety of the suburbs. And a big storm is brewing.

A kind rural lawman comes to their aid and takes an interest in the case. The trail goes cold, however, launching Sarah into a yearlong odyssey to find her husband. On the way, she must reconnect with her estranged sister and duck the suspicions of a slick city police officer. But that’s nothing compared to unearthing the dark secrets buried deep in the granite of her marriage—and in herself.

5.0 out of 5 stars well written first novel

Into the Fall kept me interested and questioning till the very end. The author kept throwing curve balls at me when thought I’d figure it out. So I had to keep going and find out more answers. Looking forward to her next book.

Not bad for a first book! The ending was less that expected, but the twists and turns were nice! I finished this in 3 reading sessions

3.0 out of 5 stars Good setting and ambiance, faltering plot

As an avid outdoor recreation enthusiast, I was excited to see a thriller with a camping setting. The author did a good job at describing the ambiance, especially how the outdoors can be cold, wet, miserable, and yet still strangely beautiful. However, the book could have used some tighter editing--in the first few pages alone, there was an irritating typo (gate vs gait).

The plot was where this began to fall apart for me. The first half of the book was intriguing, but the last half floundered and spun its wheels. The characters were practically cardboard cutouts. It was obvious that the author was going for "wife has secrets and might be the perpetrator" angle, which just irritated me because the author was clearly holding back information that would logically be in the protagonist's head, simply for the sake of Plot Reasons.

All in all, this was a decent read, just don't go in expecting a literary masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected and Excellent

I particularly appreciated the author's description of physical and emotional terrain. And suspending my understanding of the parts of the very human story until the end. The couple at the center of the story share emotions and thoughts that make them "real" and that connect them to what others commonly-but-privately experience. The mother in the family in the story seems to model what mothers do and makes a profound decision to support her daughter. The father in the family is complicated, but deserves respect. Excellent story.

I was sure I knew who did it an why— however you fooled me Ms Miller truly you did! Good story, twisted and churning. Would have given you five stars and a great review except for the f bombs. Not needed, didn’t add to the story. You’re a good writer Ms. Miller but next time explain the feelings without the f bombs— I think you can!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars such a good read…absolutely compelling

There’s nothing better than a good novel where you fall in love with some of the characters. Even if they are flawed. I loved the cadence of this book and the rhythm of the story. I really enjoyed this read and was sad that it was over. A good book is like a good friend you have to say goodbye to you when it’s over. This book was one of those for me.

This is a weird book. It has the making to be good but I just despised the main character from the beginning to end. She really had no redeeming qualities, so it was hard to continue reading.

One of those books you just have to find out what happened. Some unusual quirks that were kind of unexpected.
