About this item

A broody fae king bent on revenge meets his match in this hilarious modern romance.

Book lover Addison Thornrose can match you with your next perfect read. Unfortunately, she can’t match herself with a good man. Her latest just dumped her. Worse, she’s learned that unless she marries, and quickly, her family will lose their witch magic—forever.

Feylin, king of the fae, has no interest in romance. In fact, the only thing he’s interested in is getting revenge on the Thornrose family for ruining his life. So when he learns that they’re holding a
Bridgerton style ball to marry off their oldest daughter, Addison, he sees an opportunity for vengeance.

But what Feylin doesn’t expect is to start falling for Addison. And worse, he
really doesn’t expect it when ancient fae magic binds them together.

His solution is to strike a bargain—be in a fake relationship. Just until they can break the spell between them, and just until he can get his revenge.

For Addison, this is a dream come true! She doesn’t want to be pawned off to a line of suitors, and she certainly doesn’t want to be engaged. But between the spine-tingling fake dates and the tension-infused banter, lines begin to blur. And Addison begins to wonder when her heart will stop faking it and her feelings become real.

This grumpy/sunshine witch romcom features a ballroom dance complete with frilly gowns, a magical bookshop, a tight-knit family, sisterhood, and of course, the promise of true love. It's the first in a series of stand-alone romances.

I was so excited when this beautiful book showed up at my doorstep! Not only is the cover so fun and beautiful, so is the read!

Amy Boyle knows how to write characters with wit and great banter. I loved Addie she is quirky and made me laugh from page 2, and I adored Feylin, what can I say… I have a soft spot for moody male characters.

Addie’s lack of magic abilities (did I mention she’s a witch?) in this book make her a less attractive suitor to all of the guys who date her. Which leads us to Feylin. Feylin has beef with Addie’s family deep rooted in history. He conjures up a plan to get back at them and becomes fake engaged to Addie. The rest is a rom com of perfection.

If you love Beauty and the Beast, Bridgerton, and fun witchy reads- I present to you, your next read!

Addie is the only witch in her family unable to use magic, and it has had devastating consequences on her love life, for what wizard would ever really love her as magicless as she is? The problem is her family's magic is dependant on the line of succession being secured, and none of her sister have married or had children. As such, as the oldest, it is up to her to save her family's magic.

Feylin, the fae king living in the human world, has had it out for Addie's family for years ever since they caused him a tragic loss. He's out for revenge, but has been unable to meet out justice because fae and witch politics are separate. But when he runs into a mysterious woman that evokes emotions in him he had long thought dead, his magic unconsiously binds them. Now he and Addie are tied together in an unexpected engagement. For Addie, it means relief temporarily from the marriage market so that one of her younger sister may find their match instead. For Feylin though, his engagement to a witch finally gives him access to seek the vengeance he longs for.

If you're looking for a quirky romantic read, look no further. This quick read and its adorable banter will sweep you away, leaving you wanting the next stand-alone in the series. From the get-go, there's an instant attraction between our main characters which they resist, causing some delightful witty exchanges between the two. Enter the enemies-to-lovers trope with a very cute turnaround, that easily had me smiling. It's a rather short book so the development isn't long but it is adorable and energetic because of the heavy forced proximity. Now, some of it made more sense than other parts, and the ending in my opinion didn't completely do the book justice, but overall it's the kind of uplifting love story that feels fantastic to read whenever feeling down.

5.0 out of 5 stars A paranormal Bridgerton

This book sets you up with some Bridgerton like vibes. Then overlapping those Bridgerton vibes are some serious Beauty and the Beast vibes. Then mix those up in a paranormal world and boom you are faking it with a fae. To start this is the first book, in a seven book series. There are seven siblings, so you geussed it! Each sibling is a focus for a book. If it keeps those Bridgerton like vibes, I would suspect they could in theory be all read as standalones, but you get more out of them reading them in order. After reading this one I can't wait for the next one to release to the wild!

This book was wonderful! It hooked me right off the bat. It was light, and funny, and Addison you can connect with. If you find yourself not connecting with Addison, the banter between her and Faylin is sure to get you turning the pages. As the book goes on you see more serious happening, and less of the banter they started with, but that is because of their relationship growing. Both characters grow within this story and it is great to watch. By the end of the book if you didn't figure out from this review, or just by how the story is going, you will for sure know whom the focus of the second book will be about.

    Smut level
So the smut scenes, there are 2 1/2 (you will understand the half if you read the book, cause it is the first one you come across and your like OH YEAH!... then oh man!) . These are more vanilla scense like what you could exspect from a Bridgerton book, but there are more raw details. They are not long and drawn out. And as the point hits you do fade to the next part of the story. Because the storty is the purpose not smut. It's just a bonus.

If you are getting this book, really you are going for more the romantic comedy aspect than the smut. However if you like your books to have plot and at least to get your worked up with out just having pages full of nothing but smut… this could do the job. This books also is not littered in comedy. You get funny moments, and you get amused in spots. There are dark parts to the characters story lines that get worked out revealed through out the book.

Again if you enjoy the Bridgerton books, OR the Bridgerton Netflix series, give this series a chance! You just get fae, vampires, witches, and werewolves with this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun story, poor ending

Yes, it has a happy ending, but after the fun build of the story it's all rushed. Kind of ruins the feel. Over all I enjoyed it but it could have been done better at the end

Fun, fast, enjoyable read. I liked the characters, the FMC, Addison, is very kind and caring while being a little sassy and hot tempered with a loving family (even if they should have been honest with her). Faylin is broody and shut off, but really develops nicely through the story. There are a lot of sweet moments, some betrayal, and of course a bit of a twist. Definitely would like to read more of this series.
