About this item
The married woman of the manor. The stranger outside. An intoxicating novel of dark temptation and dangerous desire by the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Cat and Mouse Duet.
November 12, 1944. This house holds on to souls for a lifetime. I thought I had given it to my husband when I vowed to love him until the end of time. I lied. Nothing could have prepared me for the day my phantom appeared outside my window. He was terrifying, yet hypnotizing, and I couldn’t deny my intrigue. I never intended to fall into a whirlwind romance with my stalker. Especially because he’s so much more than that. A criminal. A mobster. The man who offers me solace from the monster in Parsons Manor. There are many that haunt these halls, yet it’s only my husband I fear.

4.0 out of 5 stars unique & captivating read!
this was a super angsty love story between a mafia consigliere and the object of his deep obsession, a woman trapped in a marriage to a man who’s now a target of the crime family due to the debt he’s racked up.
it’s an HD book so you know it’s hot as all get out. they were electric, truly, and gigi matched his energy tenfold. she was such a surprise minx and i loved it. their story is messy, difficult, and really real but it’s a really captivating story about a woman stuck between a union she wants no one part of anymore but can’t leave and a man who presents danger in other ways but makes her come alive.
i do wish the first chunk of it had been just gigi’s pov or had some element of mystery so we could see her unhappiness build outside of ronaldo’s appearances because at the start, it felt like i was dropped into a story that had already begun but i still thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn’t put it down.

If you haven't read the cat and mouse duet first, I highly recommend that however you CAN read this one prior. This is Gigi and Ronaldo's story, Adeline's great grandmother and her stalker that Adeline learns about in the cat and mouse duet. DEAR GOD can I just say that Ronaldo is EVERYTHING ???? his possessiveness and filthy mouth were *chefs kiss*. If you're a fan of a strong, bada$$ FMC then this is your book because Gigi is amazing.
I loved the mafia storyline and am a sucker for a book that takes place in a different time period and I think HD knocked it out of the park with this one. The ???? was phenomenal too, well written and so hot. Loved seeing Gigi blossom and take control of what she wanted for once it was so refreshing.
SPOILER ALERT-if you havent read the cat and mouse duet yet stop reading....
My only wish was that I had hoped that it would end detailing Gigi and ronaldo' s demise. You learn it in the HA books but I wish we could have seen more of Frank's obsession, read from Ronaldo s point of view when he discovers Gigi's been murdered, and that aftermath. Guess well just have to use our imagination.

5.0 out of 5 stars Historical Romance but make it dark!
Picture a striking 35 year old raven-haired, red lipped temp tress in the 1940s. Gigi is a *bird*, and at some points I wish I could reach into the pages and shake some sense & assertiveness into her. But that’s the beauty of this book—it’s a raw, authentic portrayal of a different time period. It’s frustrating, filled with angst, but that’s exactly what makes it a story worth devouring. It’s gritty and dark and everything you want! & of course my girl Gigi grows so much, and turns into the bold baddie I knew she could be!
You’re drawn into the heart-wrenching journey of watching a lover turn into a stranger while a dangerous m0bster-turned-lover weaves his way into her life. & you can’t help but cheer for them to make it work, even if it is forb!dden.
Ronaldo shows Gigi everything she should’ve been experiencing all along—everything her PoS husband never bothered to give her!
“I’m a bad man, but I won’t be her monster. No. I want to be her savior.”
Make sure to read the glossary!! And then make sure you read alll the way to the end!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mafia/stalker/historical romance
This is the story of Adeline’s great-grandma from the Cat and Mouse duet. You see her writing in the journal Addie reads. It’s a mafia/stalker/historical romance. The vocabulary was appropriate for the time period and there’s a glossary for words you’re unfamiliar with.
I feel like there was a lot of side characters with similar names to keep track of. But also that’s how it was with family names, so I don’t think that’s necessarily a negative.
I thought Frank was going to play a bigger part, and we would have seen the ending we say in the Cat and Mouse duet. At the same time I’m glad the story ended where it did even if I wanted more. Then the bonus scene just warms your heart.
Overall I think it was good but not quite great.
