About this item

A young woman probing into the mysterious circumstances of her husband's death receives a message from a medium claiming to be his channel in Mary Higgins Clark's #1 bestselling thriller, Before I Say Goodbye.

When Nell MacDermott learns that her husband, architect Adam Cauliff, and three of his business associates have died in an explosion of his new cabin cruiser, she is not only devastated but wracked with guilt. The last time she saw Adam, they had a bitter quarrel over her plan to run for the congressional seat long held by her grandfather; she had told him not to come home.

As the investigation into the boat's explosion proceeds, Nell learns that it was not an accident but a bomb. Despite her skepticism, Nell is swayed by her great-aunt Gert, a believer in psychic powers, to see a medium claiming to be Adam's channel.

While trying to unravel the threads of Adam's past and his violent end, Nell consults the medium, who transmits messages to her with instructions from Adam. The story reaches a powerful climax in Nell's final encounter with the medium, in which she learns the truth about the explosion—truth she can't be allowed to live and tell.

Another winner from Mary Higgins Clark. I was on the edge of my seat throughout most of the book. The Queen of Suspense did it again. This is a must-read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Well Worth it for a Mystery Reader.

This was an intriguing novel with some interesting relationships between characters. The main theme concerned the politics of New York City and a retired Congressman who was grooming his daughter to fill his place in Congress. She was married to a would be architect who had managed to purchase some valuable land in the city and the story centers around the machinations of the building contractors and the people who worked for them. The story was clever and well structured and written. The characters were well developed and very believable, with the possible exception of some people being able to foretell future events or communicate with the dead.

5.0 out of 5 stars One thing was not explained

As always I love her books and this was no exception. But the reveal at the end of the book did not explain why the character became involved - possibly a romantic connection but even so to allow oneself to know about and be connected to the murders was beyond belief..

She didn't disappoint me. I enjoy her books & this one was no different. Sorry but you're not going to be reading just a few pages before bed, count on staying up & then sleeping in the next morning!! I could not put down my Kindle, when I turn off the TV to read, you know I've got a great book on hand. She has many characters in this book which I usually don't like but it was easy to keep track of who worked for who & how one character is introduced into the story but yet you can keep track of them all. There was a moment that I had it all figured out, WRONG........the story line kept you hooked. An added treat, at the end of the book there were questions & answers about her books, interesting. So as I've said before, let those dust bunnies lay & get this book.

Before I say Goodbye was a very good book. It kept my interest and many time, I would think ...just one more page and then I'll close it up for the night. I read a lot of books by different authors and Mary Higgins has always been one of my favorite. I would recommend this book to anyone who like a little bit of suspense and mystery and romance all mixed in.
