I have only ever read Sarah Morgan's holiday/Christmas fiction up to this point, so I was anxious to give one of her Contemporary Rom-Coms a try. But, that is not what I got here! This is more family fiction, multi-generational family storytelling, with a touch of Romance. This is story about understanding, forgiveness, discovering your purpose, and second chances. And, it doesn't hurt that it is set against the delightful sand-swept backdrop of Cape Cod for a deliciously delightful summertime novel!
Our story revolves around our central figure, Cecilia Lapthorne, who escapes her 70th birthday party and returns to the one place she vowed to never return, Dune Cottage. She had to get away, but this little beach house is too full of memories, and not all of them happy. In escaping, Cecilia must also face up to her past, and her ghosts.
We also meet Lily, as aspiring artist who, much to the dismay of her parents, recently quit medical school to pursue more artistic (and monetarily unsuccessful) endeavors. She is a caretaker and home cleaner on Cape Cod for the summer just trying to figure things out.
And finally, there is Kristen. She is still swamped and consumed with grief over the loss of her beloved father, Cameron Lapthorne. He was a larger than life figurehead for her and she understood him much better than her complicated mother. In fact, the 2 have found precious little to connect on in his absence.
The way Morgan weaves these 3 seemingly disparate POVs makes for a great, soapy, summertime read!
