About this item
Is it so bad that I tricked my older brother’s best friend into being with me?
Maybe. In my defense, it was Dante Reid—my crush, my first love, and the one I ended up pushing away.
Our paths split in opposite directions.
I went to college on one coast while he returned to work with the US Army on the other.
The end.
Or so I thought.
After graduating and attempting a bucket list of self-discovery, guess who shows up to bail me out of a bad situation?
Dante freaking Reid—this time with more muscles, more tattoos, and more demands:
He wants me to move in across the hall from him to supposedly keep me safe.
Report my whereabouts to him.
And be careful when I'm crossing off my bucket list.
As if I'm in danger and need protection.
I don’t.
Unless it’s from him.
Because Dante has been my downfall before …
And living next to the guy I gave myself to a long time ago may actually end in my complete devastation.
Shain Rose is back with another sizzling romance. This is a standalone novel with 95,000+ words.
Tropes include:
*A possessive and jealous male hero
*Praise and exploration
*Forced proximity
*Brother's best friend
*Pierced hero

5.0 out of 5 stars such a good book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story, plot felt a little redundant at times but very steamy
**Spoiler Alert**
This book was hard for me to rate. I liked the tension, the buildup, the mob/mafia vibes, the smut, the possessive kill her and die trope, and overall I liked the characters. But I have some issues with the plot around why the FMC didn't want to be with the MMC.
I'm going through fertility issues myself and I have no problem reading about miscarriage or struggles with pregnancy as I think it's often not talked about enough.
With that being said, I don't understand why the FMC kept thinking that because she had one miscarriage when she was 18 that she wouldn't be able to have kids again with the MMC. I completely understand her trauma and depression, but she had years of therapy and yet she still for some reason thought that a single miscarriage meant she couldn't have a future child with the MMC?! The author never eluded to their being a complication with her miscarriage to cause infertility. I could ignore it if it was only mentioned once but the FMC mentions this often as being a reason for not wanting to get back together. It also makes me sad to think that after having years of therapy and follow up doctors and gyno appts that the FMC would not understand that miscarriages are very common and a single one does not bear any weight on whether or not you can have a child in the future.
The trauma around a miscarriage is heartbreaking and I think this book really showcased that but if the FMC did all this research when she was pregnant about the right things to eat, etc that they mention, I don't know how she wouldn't have come across articles and information telling her there's no reason to believe that one miscarriage means you can't have children in the future.
Sorry, rant over.
Really good story, very emotionally deep and dark, not just in the smut and plotline. I haven't read anything quite like this so I did enjoy it and would recommend it with the appropriate trigger warnings of course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything- Longing, Spice, Plot, Top Tier Writing
This story is a great mix of everything- with spice right off the bat, but it’s not all about those scenes. And even in the midst of those- they’re working through the inner turmoil to be together so it still feels like a slow burn. I appreciate sooo much how writing and dialogue was not cringy, as so many mob books are. This is one of my favorites!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy read
This book was good. Spoiler alert!! I was put off by the MFC. Her self esteem was bad her logic for her decisions were also naive. I had to skip through alot of what I thought was annoyance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Childhood friends swoon
What a magnificent book. Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes. This book did it so much justice. From the very start, I was hooked. Ahhh Dante and his little lamb Delilah. ????
Delilah was a complex character. She was sweet, kind, innocent, and therefore placed on a pedestal by family. She grew up with Dante and crushed on him. After personal trauma she was too afraid to admit to anyone, she suffered depression and a desire to stay away from her life on a pedestal. This also meant running from Dante. When she finds herself in jail and Dante her savior, things get even more complicated. She tries desperately to resist his charms. This is a tricky trope here because it can easily make the girl seem flighty or silly or over the top if not done correctly. Delilah was done very well in my opinion. I could understand her hesitation because of her depression and past and her fears. It didn’t come across cheesy at all.
Dante was perfection. He was a beautiful mix of hard, harsh alpha male and tender, sweet lover. He loved Delilah and it hurt him deeply that she pushed him away and still tried to run from him. I LOVE that he refused to let her run on him again. He wasn’t harsh to her, but he did what he had to do to try and make it clear that he didn’t want to let her go. He did have moments where he struggled with the ruthless man he was and if he could make Delilah have him, but his heart won out every time. He was smitten. ???? And his tattoo….goodness. This part was the only qualm of the story. I don’t know how she didn’t know for sure Dante was hers after she found his tattoo.
Between the complex trauma and the development of friends to lovers, I can’t say enough good about the book. Give it a chance!

4.0 out of 5 stars dante would do anything for lilah
i absolutely consumed this story as quickly as possible. it was perfect for my dark romance mood and such a great read.
lilah was easily the strongest character of the book. she endured so much trauma and pain all by her lonesome and still came out the other end. and she always believed in her family and did right by them.
dante was the big bad mob man but he was always so soft for his little lamb. even when he saw the doubt swimming in lilah’s eyes he always pushed her, because he believed in her strength. he persevered for the future he knew they deserved together.
their happy ending was hard earned and they fought for it every step of the way. and now i’m excited for izzy’s story.
WARNING: this book is for mature audiences (18+). this book also contains explicit violence such as death, as well as mentions of miscarrying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this book!
I loved this book! This is my second time reading it! I love it just as much as the first time I read it! The side characters were great. I loved the storyline. The spice was perfect! The nickname Little Lamb for Delilah, loved it! The character growth was perfect! I loved watching Dante get so possessive over Delilah going out with other men. The banter in this book was perfect! Seven to heaven baby. These books will never get old!
Favorite Quote: "I love that you love me at my worst but enjoy me at my best, and I love that I can sometimes catch a glimpse of the worst in you, even if you've practically found a way to control every part of you and the world. We might be living through a hard part of life together right now, but I'm an overachiever, so we're going to get to easy if it's the last thing I do."

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
The dynamic between the FML and MML is ridiculous. The chemistry between them feels so real you can see it. Great book. A must read.
