    5.0 out of 5 stars Ryot & Aurelia’s Story
Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2025
I loved this story so much. Probably my favorite of this series (so far). The way Ryot loves Aurelia is the way you hope anyone to be loved. It’s kind of a he falls first trope except that he is hesitant to accept it. He knows in his bones that she’s the one for him after their first meeting but due to his past relationship he’s a bit reluctant to move forward with his life. And what he doesn’t realize at the first meeting is that she’s his new principal he’ll be protecting as her bodyguard. This adds to his reluctance to fall.

Aurelia is a arranged by her father to marry someone else and as a princess she wants to do what her country needs but she also doesn’t want her first time to be with someone she doesn’t like and choose for herself. She is hoping to make some memories that will get her through what she believes will be a loveless marriage. She feels the sparks fly with Ryot at that first meeting as well.

The sparks continue to fly and their budding relationship grows as Ryot continues to protect her against the people trying to hurt her.

Aurelia’s arranged marriage falls apart but this pushes Ryot into acknowledging he doesn’t want to lose her. He continues to struggle with his one internal battle but knows he can’t live without her.

I don’t want to give too many spoilers. This is a beautiful love story with the right amount of suspense with it. Very much enjoyed this book and one of my favs of this year and this series. Looking forward to the next book!

My first ARC but not my first L. Steele book. Can be read as a stand alone but much better as a series.

This book starts out with a princess trying to have a drink but ends up kneeing a fat man in his dangling pants apples. She runs through the bar into a green eyed Adonis who pretends to be her husband to fend off the limping goon. Princess Aurelia meets Ryot Davenport for the first time.

"This. Her. Here. I've been waiting for this moment for so long. I've been waiting for her forever, and I hadn't been aware." Riot Davenport

Then she's gone. Quentin is starting up a new division of the Davenport Group. The Davenport Security Agency will be worked by Ryot and Tyler. Princess Aurelia is home in her country of Verenza and has been receiving threats. She finds she has been assigned a new security detail. Yep, it's her green eyed sexy beast of a man! The sparks fly!

This book is hawt! It should come with a gift card to replace all the panties it burns up! The angst and mystery are great and it has the L. Steele HEA. Get comfy you don't want to miss this one. Tyler is up next, can. not. wait!

4.0 out of 5 stars A wholesome love story

Ryot is very different from Quentin in “The Imperfect Marriage”. While he has a duty and tries to be professional while protecting Aurora from danger, he admits to his faults and mistakes. When Aurora talks to him about some actions that make her feel how bad she feels, Ryot apologizes and is hurt that he was the one who caused her such feelings.

Both Aurora and Ryot try to communicate the best they can. Ryot by exposing Aurora to his previous life and relationship and Aurora by asking Ryot to not be like everyone else who dismisses her because she’s a princess. I really enjoyed that Ryot rarely calls Aurora a princess and instead has a better pet name for her. It’s almost as if her title and the life that title brings doesn't fit them. She needs to perform a duty as princess and Ryot cannot be true to his feelings if she continues that role. Aurora’s life is in danger and Ryot cannot be both bodyguard and her husband. Aurora is also conflicted by her sense of duty to the memory of her mother and the promises she made to her and what she really wants: a simple life, a job that can provide for her and the man she adores by her side without having to go to all the formal engagements. Ryot wants a wife who adores him and a life away from violence that reminds him of his past.

“The Reluctant Wife” is a story about healing and finding that our path needs to be forged by ourselves. Ryot and Aurora are true to what they want and while they struggle with their obligations, they are a very honest couple who find happiness in each other.
