About this item

A husband’s obsessive desire for a child leads to an unexpected manifestation of his yearning in a nightmarish short story about fatherhood dreams by New York Times bestselling author Joe Hill.

Willy and Marianne’s farmhouse in Maine has acres of meadow and fresh air, and a lonesome bridle path in the forest along which Willy daydreams and ambles. When he’s loaned a decrepit old baby stroller to cart his groceries home, the rickety squeak of the wheels comforts him. So do the sweet coos of a baby Willy knows can’t be real. Can it? In this twisted thicket, wishes come true—with a price.

Joe Hill’s The Pram is part of Creature Feature, a collection of devilishly creepy stories that tingle the spine and twist the mind. They can be read or listened to in one petrifying sitting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good horror short story

In less than 60 pages Joe Hill, son of Stephen King, creates a good story with credible and developed characters. A family shaken by a miscarriage moves to Maine. The locals include the last remnants of an old sect. Creature feature meets folk horror.

The Pram by Joe Hill is a short story about a married couple who just moved to a new town to try and get a fresh start, after a recent miscarriage. They come across this “beautiful” Pram, just in time because they will have a baby soon!

*5stars - This short story was well written. Even though this was a short story, I still felt like I was able to get to know the characters enough to relate in some way.
*4stars - It had a fitting ending, I just wish it ended slightly different or had a little more to it. Mayne even a short epilogue.
*3stars - Wasnt a fan of the “glimpse ahead” that happened a couple time in this book. (ex: you didnt know you burnt the toast, BUT YOU ARE ABOUT TO)

3 stars!

I would recommend this short story. I was able to listen and read along. Robert Petkoff was the narrator and was excellent.

Reading anything by Joe Hill is like opening yourself up to hearing from an old friend. You hang on every word and let yourself be taken along for the ride. Whether a quick jaunt or a longer marathon, Joe Hill will make the journey unique and so much fun! Even if better traveled during daylight hours only!

This short read had me on my toes. There are some trigger warnings (miscarriage topic) which could make this hard to read for some. It’s basically throughout the whole book so those who pick it up should know that. Other than that, it was spooky. A quick creepy story in a short amount of time is hard but Joe Hill did it.

Disturbing horror at its best. This is a great short story which reminds me of the earlier works of the elder King. I highly recommend it, enjoy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Fine for a short story

I thought this was an OK book, not great. I really liked that it had an audiobook attached for free so I listened to it while I did other things. I found that the short story was lacking but that often happens w them because there isn't enough time to properly get to know the characters, etc. This one did a fine job of doing that to an extent. I did appreciate the comparison joke about the pram actually being a "miscarriage". All in all, nice and short for listening to while you do something.
