About this item

Welcome to the neighborhood. Watch your husband, watch your friends, and watch your back.

Cat Winthorpe has worked hard to get what she has: a gorgeous home; social standing; and William, her successful, handsome husband. Then a friendly new couple moves into the estate next door. While cautious, a good neighbor like Cat greets them with open arms and warm hospitality.

Neena Ryder isn’t a fellow lady of leisure. A life coach with off-the-rack dresses, personal issues, and a husband who hasn’t delivered, she’s anxious to move up in the world. This beautiful new town is a step in the right direction. It’s also making Neena aware of what she doesn’t have. Namely, William. When Neena’s infatuation escalates into obsession, it’s just a matter of eliminating a few obstacles to get the life she wants. The life next door.

As Neena’s secret fixation grows, so does her friendship with Cat. But beneath their cordial interactions is a wealth of temptations, secrets, and toxic jealousy. For both women, the desire for a perfect life can turn perfectly dangerous.

5.0 out of 5 stars A riveting psychological thriller

The story is centered around two main characters: Cat Winthorpe and Neena Ryder. Cat is the epitome of the successful, elegant suburban wife, while Neena is her new, seemingly perfect neighbor with a hidden agenda. Neena's ambition is boundless, and she sets her sights on Cat's husband, William, a wealthy and influential man.

The narrative is structured to alternate between Cat and Neena's perspectives, providing readers with a nuanced understanding of their motivations and desires.

The authors writing is sharp and engaging, with a knack for building suspense. The narrative alternates between Cat's and Neena's perspectives, allowing readers to delve into their minds and understand their motivations. This dual narrative approach heightens the tension and provides a well-rounded view of the unfolding drama. The dialogue is crisp and realistic, adding to the authenticity of the characters' interactions.

A great read. I’m looking forward to the authors next book

Unbelievable labyrinth of intrigue, twists and turns, cross and double- cross!! Exceptional work from first word to the last. You WILL NOT believe your eyes at what you just read!!
Torre as a skillful weaver, hides the threads TILL THE LAST PAGE! Maintaining readers interest, holding them spellbound, she keeps ALL THE CARDS very close to her chest, declaring them one by one, till your brain is mush from seeing every character turncoat, your jaw is stuck at drop open stance and your eyes are wide open trying to grasp it all
"Act.
Enjoy.
Regret.
Push away.
Yearn.
Obsess.
Justify.
Obsess.
Turn against those who keep them from their addiction.
Obsess.
Act."

You have to take my word and pick up this book for the bewildering storyline, a virtual cesspool of lies and betrayals, churning at warp speed.
I have to mention-
NOTHING is black & white.
NO ONE is virtuous or sinner.
NOTHING is off the table
Alessandra incorporates every vice possible when building these characters, and ALL are guilty to some degree of cheating & duplicity at some point or the other.
"Lust plus opportunity equals sex. It was quick, dirty, and pointless,"

Be it the conniving vixen Dr Neena Ryder with her affable husband, Matt, whose love holds value and meaning for Neena.
Their next door neighbours, the perfectly happy couple, William Winthorpe, who's utterly besotted with his wife Cat.

"That was the secret to success in this town. Presenting a picture of effortless perfection with behind-the-scenes ruthless hard work. Everyone thought I woke up as Cat Winthorpe one day, but I had clawed and scraped for every piece of this life. Still did."

Her friends Kelly and Atherton wives or Neena's past. All are tainted in varying shades of Grey.
“They say anyone would steal if given enough opportunities and lack of consequences.”
Every chapter opens yet another door to the gates of mayhem and as you keep going down the rabbit hole, you'd think you've figured it out and you saw that coming, but wait! Youre WRONG!!
Deviously conceived, Masterfully plotted, it just blew my mind to smithereens!!
"This wasn’t the end—it was the beginning, the blurring of lines between professional and friendly, appropriate and not. Blurred lines. Smear enough of them together, and you could change the color of everything.
His marriage.
My life.
Everything."
every word, every clue is put there for a reason. so PAY ATTENTION!!
Torre returns to her Black Lies mindset, going dark-ish and coloring graphite outside the box. she yet again proves why she reigns the intrigue Genre.
I'm not gonna tell you ANYTHING about the storyline so jump in blind and let your eyes deceive your brain.. Oh yes, they will!!!
Only one tiny peeve- the Cover doesn't relate to the story at all. It's misleading. But idc, I just couldn't put the book down. I forgot to clean, cook, bathe, go for a walk... I exercised at 9pm cause I didn't wanna stop reading this decadent story of delicious lives of the rich & famous.....and the copycat wannabes

4.0 out of 5 stars Twisty and interesting

You know what? I actually enjoyed this quite a bit. I wasn't sure that I was liking it in the beginning - none of the characters are particularly likable, the "Real Housewives" vibe wasn't 100% working for me, and I wasn't sure where it was heading. But the writing is strong and there's some compelling element that made me continue reading until all of a sudden I was invested in the story. There are twists and turns, lies, jealousy, cheating, and characters who are shades of gray. I felt tiny moments of empathy for the villains and saw glimpses of evil in the heroes, which made this an unpredictable, interesting read.

The story follows Cat and Neena, two very different wives. Neena is the kind of woman who has always wanted what others have - fine tuning her body to fit an ideal image, thinking of relationships as stepping stones, and cheating her way to the top. Cat seems to have an effortless happiness about her - she looks naturally beautiful, has a sexy, loving husband, and seems to be genuinely content. But things get complicated when Neena sets her sights on Cat's husband, and both of these women show their true colors.

The best part about this is the writing; the whole thing would fall apart without it. Torre is known for her romance and I will definitely be checking it out after reading this. She's got a great understanding of the complexities of relationships, and reading about Cat's marriage felt like looking at an office romance from a different angle. Yes, there's lying, cheating, and all kinds of other triggering content. This is NOT a romance in any way. But there are a few lightly explicit scenes and plenty of tension relating to sex. This is probably not the kind of book that I'd seek out in the future, but it was certainly an interesting read. You may or may not see the twists coming, but it will be an engaging journey to get there.
