About this item

After his marriage fails, he hopes a vacation in France will relax and restore him. But fate has something more poisonous in store in this biting tale from bestselling author B. A. Paris.

Michael wanted to back out of this trip to the South of France after his wife left him, but his sister and their friends wouldn’t hear of it. His fellow houseguest Rupert isn’t in the mood, either, having recently been widowed. But rather than bonding, Michael is unsettled by Rupert’s constant needling. That and the bug bites are enough to suck the life right out of an idyllic holiday.

The Mosquito is part of Obsession, a collection of compulsively readable short stories about people pushed to their extremes. So addictive you won’t be able to put them down—read or listen to each story in a single sitting.

Short, but satisfying read. An ending even I didn't see coming.
Tell me why I thought that Rupert, with his irritating self, transformed into the equally irritating mosquito at night????

Quite a tidy and clever short story. I think everyone has probably known a Rupert, and certainly most have been irritated by a mosquito. I can't say more, as like mosquitoes, no one likes a spoiler review on a book or movie.

3.0 out of 5 stars An annoying vacation

This is a short story on Michael's frustration about one mosquito's and Rupert's obsession over him, both with the aim of ruining his vacation. Both Michael and Rupert were left without their wives before what was supposed to be a couples' vacation. Michael is having a terrible time, but more than anything else, he's displeased everyone seems to think he's just too nice. Until he's not.

This is a smooth story, however I found it incredibly uninteresting. This series seems to be quite different than the other Amazon Original Stories collections, and certainly not something I usually would pick up to read. It seems so far that it's just not for me as the stories are too plain. The twist was a bit more drastic than anticipated, but quite expected.

I don't have a clue who would be a good target audience for this story and I give it 3/5 stars because it's quite well written, but covers a topic that's quite boring for me.

This is my second B. A. Paris book that I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying. While the other was a bit longer I enjoyed this refreshing short read. Loved how the annoying mosquito represented his “friend” and that ending was pretty good. Did not expect that!

Michael is trying to enjoy a vacation getaway with friends, though his wife has left him. So is Rupert, recently widowed, though his insults are driving everyone crazy, especially Michael, his main target.
Will Michael continue to rise above and be ‘too nice’, as his wife would say? And what about the mosquito that is adding to his frustration daily?
An excellent little tale.

This is my first time reading The Mosquito and while I liked the ending ... I found myself often wondering what the point with Rupert was.

Of course toward the end, we find him out, but still...

I think certain parts could have been more dramatic and it's not the best short story I have ever read, however I deeply enjoyed the authors style and I can be tempted into checking out more books by B. A. Paris in the future.

2.0 out of 5 stars quite boring but nice ending

This story started out very boring and unimpressive. I also felt kept feeling a fictitious bug crawling on me and felt phantom itching due to that damn mosquito that wouldn’t die. The last three pages really perked the story up to a 2 star story about instead of a no star one.
