There are two versions of this book. There is one with graphic violence, called a “red band“ edition, with some amazing art, and really pushes the boundaries of the more adult nature of certain stories. Then there is this one which is a bowdlerized version that is missing three pages and has significantly better artwork.
This is bait and switch, and you don’t know it until it’s too late. And Amazon refuses to refund selling this censored version. Refund my money. Without the violence, the story loses all meaning. The censored versions of the artwork look terrible.
Throughout the Red Band version of the book there are several pages with several panels that contain completely different artwork that is amazing and groundbreaking in a way. The artwork in this digital version with censored panels and completely re-drawn panels, as well as the extra pages, looks unfinished. It looks rushed. It’s not compelling.
The story without the violence is not the story. If there are two different versions of this, and, and there are, then that needs to be made absolutely clear upfront, and not some thing that ends up wasting peoples time with a crappy version of a book and a potentially great version of the book.
This digital version of this comic book is the crappy version. The Red Band version of the book is unavailable online for purchase, and nowhere was it mentioned that this is a censored version of what was advertised to be an “R-rated” gore fest. That’s the whole point of the book.
I cannot recommend buying this version at all. It’s not good. From what I have seen of the other version, there are some really amazing panels, and the story works better and makes sense. With all of the gore and the blood removed, there really is no point to the story.
It’s supposed to be an adult horror story, but this is a deeply sanitized version suited for young children.
That’s how different the books are.
I would recommend avoiding this entire series digitally, because the red band versions are not made available, and those are the only versions of this worth reading.
This is a very disappointing sales tactic from marvel, and this is a very disappointing customer service situation with Amazon.
I 100% do not recommend this. The story itself does not stand on its own. This book only works when it artwork works.
Either buy the single issues or wait until it is collected in its uncensored version, when it is released as a hardcover or trade paperback.
This is bait and switch by Amazon.
