Beloved of the English people, Nell has come a long way from selling oranges and a childhood in a brothel, but as her fortunes have turned, her sister Rose has taken a different path. Nell Gwyn is a name we recognize. She was a famous actress in the 17th century who became the mistress of King Charles II -- well, one of them. Her sister Rose led a different life. She became a thief and on one occasion was arrested for treason, for taking part in the theft of the Crown Jewels.
This is a dual timeline story, and the present-day counterparts acquire the house once owned by Rose and conduct research about the house and the Gwyn sisters.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the early copy

It’s not a timeslip novel.
There is no time travel or time slipping forward or backwards into history to be found. It’s a DUAL TIMELINE story where we follow both Rose Gwyn in the 1600s and then Jess Yates in the present day. The ladies had never met or interacted with other beyond Jess doing research in the current day for her sister’s tv show.
I was expecting more but the few supernatural elements felt superficial and frankly just tacked on. Francisca the psychic could be explained but the sudden show of power from Jess’s minor character friend was just too clumsy.
I did enjoy the mystery and heist of Rose and John Castle robbing the crown jewels and the tension between the sisters. I felt those parts were exciting but it seemed like the author didn’t really think so and dropped it for a petty setup for Rose and Guy’s romance. Which I still wasn’t very convinced by at the end of it.
