5.0 out of 5 stars Good stories. And what a bargain!
Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2024
Excuse my ignorance, but I had never heard of Neil Gaiman before reading this book. I’m not sure why I had never heard of him, but its true. I was looking for another book to read and this volume was on sale, and it looked to be chocked full of stories. Fifty-two by counting the contents several times. Fifty-two to Fifty-four. But I stand by fifty-two. What a bargain! So, I took a chance and have been delighted and highly entertained. Little did I know I was getting more than that, though. Many of Neil Gaiman’s stories are stories within stories. Stories told by characters within the main stories. Sometimes several stories or several stories deep. What a bargain is that?

If you enjoy monsters and angels and mythical beasts of various sorts, real or imaginary, you will surely enjoy these pages. Obvious monsters. Hidden monsters. Scary monsters and polite monsters. They are all here together with an odd assortment of characters, some who may appear to be quite familiar. He turns the Snow White story on its head, makes a search for the Holy Grail quite polite and civilized and creates a whole lot of common daily scenes into something not so common. From Scotland to Los Angeles (that 30-minute city) and the worlds between worlds, he takes you on grand adventures.

So, I’d recommend this book, even if you have never heard of Neil Gaiman.

4.0 out of 5 stars Missing pages? From p49 to p81!
Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2021
Is anyone else missing pages 49-80 in their hardcover first edition?
It's not like they were removed; the binding suggests they simply weren't included.
And they weren't just moved somewhere else.
    What happened with Raguel?!
Is that what Lucifer does - get us absorbed into the story and then "oops, no ending"?!
