About this item

A sexy small town, grumpy/sunshine, workplace romance by best-selling author, Elizabeth O’Roark.
EMMY
Elliott Springs has small-town values, cobblestone streets, perfect scenery. These are things I don’t care about. What I
do care about: Revenge. And no matter how incredibly compelling I find Liam Doherty—the gorgeous contractor focused on saving Elliott Springs—I’m going to get it.

LIAM
What do you call a woman who wants to destroy everything you love, yet the sight of her sets you on fire? Nemesis or soulmate…and since she can’t wait to leave California, I guess I know which one she is.

Emerson Hughes wants to be the villain in our town’s history, and the more I learn about her past here, the more I understand it.

I wanted to save Elliott Springs. I think I want to save her even more. And keep her with me when it’s over.
TW: character bullied about weight, body issues

OMG, I love, love, love this book! I always jump right in when it comes to Elizabeth O’Roark’s creations. She is an auto-buy author to me and her works just click with my taste in romance novels. The Summer I Destroyed You was no exception, I simply adored every second of this story! Sexy and smart with sensational banter, fantastic chemistry and a gorgeously emotional love story, this enemies to lovers romance absolutely blew me away and I loved every moment of the ride and couldn’t put it down.

After years away, Emmy comes back to Elliott Springs planning to destroy the whole town. Carrying years of trauma associated with high school, she has only one goal in mind: revenge. Enter Liam, the only person who can derail her plans.

On the surface, Emmy is cold and heartless, yet feisty when she needs to be, and not particularly likeable. But there’s something about her that intrigued me. And now? She has my whole heart. There is so much more to this woman than meets the eye. She's such a complex and yet endearing character. There is so much hurt she's been through and as you peel back each layer of what made her into the woman she is today, the more you fall for her. Her complete opposite, Liam is a charmingly irresistible player. He’s open, funny, sweet and flirtatious. The way he works to earn Emmy’s trust is what book boyfriend dreams are made of! Antagonistic and adversarial with an edge of attraction, their chemistry sizzled off the page. Every encounter between them seemed to bump up the heat beneath the pot of their simmering lust. When they weren’t throwing barbs and bantering back-and-forth, they were practically scalding each other with the heat burning between them. Their relationship was an intense, a raging storm of emotion and passion, and I simply couldn’t get enough. These two were absolutely everything. I couldn't get enough of them together. I loved their journey almost as much as I loved their banter. Liam is the calm to Emmy’s storm and I loved how they balanced each other.

This couple had their work cut out for them to get to their happily ever after. They had big obstacles in their path, and they had to sift through some heavy baggage to get there. Elizabeth takes us along for the ride with an emotional and hard-fought romance that was as hot as it was emotional. I was positively enthralled by this love story, and I devoured this book with heart-racing anticipation in a day.

This was a great next installment of this series! While we didn’t see Liam much in the previous books, I was ready to see what his story would be.

Liam Doherty is a construction worker in the small town of Elliott Springs and he gets a job from a big company that he can’t say no to, even if he wants to since he knows that the company is trying to come in and buy up Elliott Springs to change it from a charming small town to something closer to every other big city around. And he would be right because Emmy Hughes is determined to destr0y the small town that destr0yed her no matter how much she enjoys bantering with Liam. When Emmy returns to town and finally meets Liam in person, their chemistry dims a bit because Emmy is sure that Liam is just like everyone else in Elliott Springs who brought her down her whole life, and Liam thinks that Emmy is nothing but a stuck up princess (which is how she treats him). As they continue to work together, they slowly get to know each other in person and things between them heat up again as they learn more about each other. As Liam learns more about Emmy’s past, he starts to understand why she hates Elliott Springs so much that she wants to destr0y it. Liam tries to help Emmy see the good parts of their small town, but he also f!ghts for her when some of the people still treat Emmy badly. Emmy came to destr0y Elliott Springs but she found Liam instead, as well as a few others who helped her see that Elliott Springs might not be as terrible as she thought. And while Liam wants to save the town from Emmy, he realizes that maybe Emmy is the one he wants to save…

This was a great story, even if I was frustrated with Emmy at times. But, I could also understand why she acted the way she did after learning about her past, so it was hard to start mad at her. I loved Liam so much and he was such a great guy. I loved that he was so determined to find someone to be in a serious relationship with after so many years of being a playb0y. It was also nice to see the role reversal of Emmy, our FMC, being the one who wasn’t into the idea of a relationship rather than Liam, our MMC. I always love seeing a man who isn’t afraid to say that he wants more out of life than one-night stands. Liam worked really hard to make Emmy see that he wanted her for more than what she could potentially give him. Emmy had a lot of issues to work through, but Liam never thought she was “too much work” even when others might have thought that. He was always there to support her and be there for her while she worked through her issues which was amazing to see. Emmy grew a lot during this story and I loved seeing all the ways she grew as a character in the story. She never lost her fire, though, which I also appreciated. Liam and Emmy had great chemistry and banter throughout the story and never lost that even when they did finally give in to their attraction, which I love.

This was a great next installment to this amazing series. While we don’t see many cameos during the story, the ones we do see are awesome. I loved this story, but I can’t wait to see what Harrison gets up to in the final installment of the Summer series!
