About this item

A nice, normal life. Is that too much to ask? For Riley Thorn it is.

Divorced. Broke. Living with a pack of elderly roommates. And those hallucinations she’s diligently ignoring? Her tarot card-dealing mom is convinced they’re clairvoyant visions.

Just when things can’t get worse, a so-hot-it-should-be-illegal private investigator shows up on her doorstep looking for a neighbor…who turns up murdered.

Nick Santiago doesn’t play well with others. Unless the “others” are of the female persuasion. Wink. He’s a rebel, a black sheep, a man who prefers a buffet of options to being stuck with the same entrée every night, if you catch his drift.

When the pretty, possibly psychic Riley lands at the top of the list of suspects, Nick volunteers to find out whodunit. Only because he likes solving mysteries not because he wants to flex his heroic muscles for the damsel in distress.

All they have to do is figure out who pulled the trigger, keep the by-the-book detective with a grudge at bay, and deal with a stranger claiming he was sent to help Riley hone her psychic gifts. All before the killer discovers she’s a loose end that requires snipping.

What a marvelous book!Ms. Score Right it’s a wonderful story about a young lady and the struggles she has in her family, life,, and mind.
Riley, midlife lady Who is family is, we’ll say, different. Riley has always tried to be normal, not that it’s actually worked. She lives in a mansion whose rooms have been turned into many apartments. Mainly, except for Riley, the residents are all old.
Which of course, leads to laughter. Lots of laughs in the book.
If you enjoy Zini characters, good people, some strange things, and lots of good things, you’ll love this book.
    Can’t miss! Read it! ????

4.0 out of 5 stars Riley Thorn You Are My Hero - Best, Most Hysterical Book Ever!

This series is one of the best I've read in my entire life. I laugh so hard I cry. Lucy Score has an incredible sense of humor & timing. Her characters are hysterically, outrageously funny, quirky & wonderful. I've re-read each book numerous times. Any time I'm feeling down or need a good feeling boost, I pick up my Riley Thorn book. Ive read this book at least a dozen times & i still laugh out loud every time. I'm hoping & praying there will be many, many more of these phenomenally hysterical & wonderful books.

How can you go wrong with a houseful of out of control elderly neighbors/roommates with constant shenanigans, an amazing dog, a super cool psychic & her hot as sin PI boyfriend.

P.S. I only have one complaint for Lucy Score. Please stop using Gods name in vain. Otherwise, these books are the best ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Take yet another female badass heroine that only Lucy Score can write. Add another obsurdly handsome Knight in Shining Armor that's got dimples and a badge. Throw in everything you loved about shows like Bewitched, Medium and a good mystery novel or cop show with all the twists and turns. Finally, have incredible chemistry between the characters that has you loving them one second and ready to pinch their heads off the next. Don't forget the amazing tension that you felt when you were falling for the one. That's this book. Relive that first kiss, first argument, all those firsts, in this funny, lovely written book that will have you up most of the night to figure out who done it. Can't wait to get started on the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wild adventure
Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2020
What a wild ride! I don’t know what I was expecting from this book, but it definitely wasn’t this. Unlike anything I’ve read by this author, it’s a crazy, unpredictable journey from start to finish. And while romance is central to the story, this is very much a psychic mystery/adventure, with (entertaining) chaos throughout. Once I wrapped my head around what I was reading, I really started to get into it. Riley and Nick are both such great characters that they pulled me into this crazy adventure. It’s light, it’s funny, it’s action-packed, and while the romance is a lot tamer than the author’s usual, I was completely invested in the relationship.

The story follows Riley, a woman who has always wanted to be normal. That hasn’t been in the cards for her, and now that her psychic abilities have started to go into overdrive, it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen anytime soon either. When Riley meets former cop/current P.I. Nick, neither one has any idea what they’re in store for. As psychic and detective team up to solve a murder, the commitment-phobic Nick discovers that there just might be one woman he’d consider more with – because she certainly keeps things interesting.

I’ve read several books by this author and enjoyed them all, so I had no problems going into this one blind. And it was a whole lot of fun. This is definitely a departure from anything she’s written in the past, and it won’t be to everyone’s tastes. Clairvoyance and psychic abilities play a larger role than I expected, the steam factor is almost nonexistent, and it’s undoubtedly too long, but those who are willing to go on the journey are in for a great read. Nick makes such a lovable hero – he’s never been the type to settle down, but knows a good woman when he sees her. He’s protective, loyal, and rolls with the crazy. Riley is semi-controlled chaos and definitely unforgettable. Together, they make a dynamic and interesting couple. It’s not the kind of book I would read every day, but the author’s talent shines through to make it such an entertaining read. If you’re in the mood for a low angst, high humor, zaney kind of romance, then look no further. I received a free copy via Enticing Journey (then purchased it for my collection), and am voluntarily leaving a review of this romantic adventure.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, Light, Cozy Mystery Fiction

This is a fun, light, cozy mystery set in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. It is mostly clearly written light fiction and as such makes for a good audiobook than can be fairly easily followed while commuting or taking a walk etc. The audiobook is very well narrated.

I found the story somewhat unrealistic, but it made for a fun farcical adventure. There is romance, a cast of amusing characters, psychic personalities, corruption, etc…. I was glad that I read the story as well as listening to it on audiobook. However I don’t necessarily plan on reading more stories within this series.
Thank you for taking the time to read this review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great book my Lucy!
Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2024
I read this months ago and absolutely loved it! I immediately had to dive into the next book.

Lucy has a gift at creating characters that will have you laughing out loud! This book is so chaotic and kept me cracking up the whole time. I loved all of Riley’s housemates. The comedy they produced was next level!

Nick & Riley are perfect for each other! There isn’t any spice in this book, and I don’t think I would consider this a romance heavy book at all!

If you love Lucy Score, you definitely have to check out this series!
